Description

First registered in May 2001, this vehicle has been used very sparingly throughout its ownership history. The first owner checked many boxes on the options list when ordering the car – perhaps not surprising, as unconfirmed reports suggest it initially served as a photo car for the factory. The current owner has driven it less than 300 km during his 8 years of ownership, and the car has always been stored in a dry, heated garage. The most recent approved inspection was carried out on 2025-03-11.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The successful turbo five-cylinder engine, a relatively rare choice among sold examples, offers its familiar and pleasant character, paired with an automatic transmission that shifts smoothly. There are no unwanted noises from the chassis. The most recent major service, including a timing belt replacement, was performed in July 2023 at 45,370 km.

  • Interior condition:

Stylish and practical leather upholstery with alcantara inserts, all in very good condition with no damage or visible wear. Overall, the condition is consistent with the mileage. An effective wind deflector that also covers the entire rear seat is included.

  • Exterior condition:

Neat paintwork and soft top, the latter showing a few crease marks and a small wear hole along the roofline on the left side, with a corresponding wear mark on the right. These are due to a metal bracket in the convertible top well, originally fitted at the factory but often removed by enthusiast owners. Older Hankook tires with good tread and original wheels showing some minor marks.

  • General condition:

Low mileage, well-equipped, and well-maintained — this example offers an especially strong overall impression. Hopefully destined to be preserved and enjoyed by the discerning C70 enthusiast.

Facts about the model

At launch, the Volvo C70 was available with five-cylinder engines featuring either low-pressure or high-pressure turbocharging, and offered with both manual and automatic transmissions. The C70 was developed in collaboration with Tom Walkinshaw Racing and marked the design breakthrough of Peter Horbury. It was well received by the media and automotive journalists for its comfort, spaciousness, high torsional rigidity, and appealing design language.

The coupé version features a smoother and more harmonious roofline than the convertible, due to the structural hoops required in a fabric roof. The second-generation C70 addressed this by introducing a three-piece retractable hardtop. Due to limited availability and the market's relatively low demand for high-end coupés, sales remained modest. However, Volvo enthusiasts have cultivated a cult following around the sporty C70, similar to that of its iconic predecessor, the P1800—thanks to its innovative design and purposeful performance.

The C70 was relatively heavy for its size, mainly due to extensive safety features. With power from its turbocharged engine, the car performs best at higher speeds. Production of the coupé version ended in 2002 due to declining demand and the discontinuation of related Volvo models, which limited parts availability. Several special editions and performance packages were offered as commemorative models of the first-generation C70. Convertible production continued, and by 2004, as many had been sold as during the entire 1997–2003 period.
