"A gently used car that runs well and only needs a thorough interior and exterior detailing, plus an inspection, to become truly pristine."

Description

This car was originally purchased new by a man who worked at Volvo in Olofström. After owning it for one year, he sold it to the current owner. He was a passionate car enthusiast who owned several vehicles that he actively drove. This Volvo was his prized car and was driven very sparingly.

The car was always kept in a garage when not in use. Unfortunately, he passed away last year, and the car was registered in his wife’s name, but she has never driven it.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car runs excellently and everything functions well. A basic check-up is recommended, as it hasn't been driven much recently. A new battery has been installed. There is a slight tendency for the brakes to drag.

  • Interior condition

The interior is in very good condition but could benefit from a detailing. Seat covers have always been used, so the original upholstery shows no wear. The original floor mats are also in great shape.

  • Exterior condition

The paint is very nice with no damage, though it is dull and would benefit from polishing. Original wheels are in good condition with approved tires.

  • General condition

A nice Volvo that will be close to like-new after detailing. The car requires a control inspection to be fully roadworthy.

Facts about the model

The 700 series was introduced with the 760 model, launched in February 1982. In 1984, the simpler and more affordable sibling, the Volvo 740, was introduced as the volume model. The first to arrive was the 740 GLE with a B23E engine featuring fuel injection and 130 hp. This was followed by the 740 GL with a B23A carbureted engine producing 112 hp. The 740 Turbo was also available, equipped with the same turbocharged engine as the 760 Turbo.

In spring 1985, the 740 estate model was introduced as the 1985 model year in North America, while the rest of the world had to wait until autumn 1985 for the 1986 model year.

The Volvo 740 is simply constructed with a unibody chassis, an inline 4-cylinder engine, and the gearbox mounted directly behind it, extending into the driveshaft tunnel. Behind the gearbox sits the driveshaft, which, via a support bearing and two universal joints, transmits power to the rear wheels through a rigid, traditional cast-iron rear axle. The foundation of Volvo’s in-house petrol engines includes a five-bearing crankshaft, a single overhead camshaft, and two valves per cylinder.

The Volvo 740 was primarily assembled and built in Sweden, but also in Belgium.

Production ended with the 1993 model year in autumn 1992, due to the release of the closely related, further developed 940 model.
