Description

It was delivered to its first owner in March 1972 and has had only two regular owners since the early 1980s. The current owner inherited the car from his father. The most recent approved inspection was carried out on July 31, 2007.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine starts easily, and the clutch engages surprisingly quickly and directly. It probably hasn’t been intentionally adjusted that way, but for a driver who enjoys a sporty feel, it might feel just right. The car’s service and maintenance history is largely unknown, but the current owner's father was a discerning vehicle collector.

  • Interior condition:

Original interior in worn condition, with split seams on the driver’s seat and damage to the door panel armrests. Still, the headliner and carpets are in good shape.

  • Exterior condition:

The car was repainted at some point, though the current owner doesn’t know exactly when—only that it was before his father bought it in 2006. There’s a bodycoat stripe along the sills, a popular treatment in the 1980s, which might hint at when the bodywork was possibly restored. There are bubbles and blemishes, particularly on the lower right door and the sills. It sits on original 5-spoke ATS wheels with old Michelin tires, while the spare is a so-called “clover” wheel, which was also an original accessory for the 1800E.

  • General condition:

Interesting and appealing to many thanks to its electronic fuel injection and status as the second-to-last model year of its type, presented here in currently uninspected, road-going condition.

Facts about the model

The 1800E was the final generation in the model series that began with the P1800 in 1961. The E model, featuring the B20 fuel-injected engine with Bosch D-Jetronic, a new camshaft, and larger intake valves, began production in September 1969 and was built until June 22, 1972. The wagon version, the ES—introduced a few months earlier—continued production into the following year, 1973. A large portion of the E models were originally sold in the U.S., but in recent years, quite a few have made their way back home to Sweden.
