Description

This car was sold new at Ramers (Volvo) in Lindesberg on January 2, 1974. The family had decided to buy a new car, and their daughter, who was then a student, got to choose the color. They settled on the beautiful Gold Metallic with black leather interior. She was also registered as the owner of the car. Automatic transmission and sunroof were natural choices.

The car was owned and used by the family until the current owner purchased it in November 2020. It remains in very fine original condition, both exterior and interior, and has been well cared for by the current owner. It is very difficult to find even the slightest spot of dirt on the car.

The most recent inspection was carried out in June 2021 at 32,230 km (20,000 miles), and since then it has only been driven 460 km (286 miles). It is now exempt from tax and inspection. Keys, spare wheel, and jack are included.

As a piece of trivia, the original purchase agreement from 1974 still exists, showing the price at delivery as 31,515 SEK.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The B20 engine, designated B20E, starts easily and runs quietly and smoothly. The three-speed automatic transmission performs flawlessly. All other technical functions are fully operational.

  • Interior condition:

There is truly nothing to fault. The leather seats are well-conditioned and meticulously cared for, while also being very comfortable. Even back then, Volvo manufactured some of the best seats on the market.

  • Exterior condition:

The owner has wisely preserved the car in its original condition. There is a slight dent and two minor scratches, but these are minor imperfections—better to keep it original than to repaint.

  • General condition:

If you’re looking for a classic Volvo GL with the right color and equipment, this is the car to own. It exudes a genuine Swedish aura and attracts many admiring glances.

Owner's comment

I have been very careful to preserve the original condition of this fine Volvo. The car has been part of a collection of low-mileage Volvos that I have owned.

Facts about the model

The Volvo 140 series is a range of large passenger cars produced by the Swedish manufacturer Volvo between 1966 and 1974. The series includes the 142 (2-door sedan), 144 (4-door sedan), and 145 (5-door station wagon) models. Over 1.2 million units were produced in total, making it Volvo’s first series to surpass one million cars built.

Starting in 1970, a variant of the 145 model with a higher roof, called the 145 Express, was introduced. It was intended to replace the Volvo Duett, whose production ended in February 1969, but it never matched the success of its predecessor.

The 140 series is known as a milestone in Volvo’s history, representing the creation of the modern Volvo car with its boxy body, spacious interior, and strong focus on safety. The body design of the 140 series lived on through the 240 series well into the 1990s. While the front and rear sections were modified, the central part of the body remained largely unchanged, and doors from late-model 240s can be used on 144/145 models from the 1960s.
