"It’s always a bit mind-blowing to come across a 54-year-old car in this kind of condition. You almost have to sit down for a few minutes just to take it all in. And then comes the big question—can that mileage really be original? That’s when you’re handed a folder packed with documents confirming every kilometer. Add to that the fact it runs and drives nicely, and there’s really only one word to sum it all up: WOW."

Description

The 142 Deluxe was bought new in 1971 by Mr. Svensson from Volvo dealer C.A. Winquist in Simrishamn. He cherished and carefully looked after it, keeping every piece of documentation—including the original registration plate "L81629". Mr. Svensson owned the car until his passing in 1990, after which his brother inherited it. The car remained garaged until he decided to sell it, and in 2012 it was given a fresh inspection and found a new owner.

That third and current owner is a passionate Volvo and classic car enthusiast who has kept the car in a heated garage and maintained it meticulously. He regularly changed the oil and fluids and only drove the car lightly—mainly to inspections and local shows. In total, he's added just 750 km since purchasing it. The car passed its final inspection in 2020 and is now exempt, making it a wonderfully preserved piece of Swedish motoring history.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

I’ve test-driven the car for over 10 km without any issues. The B20 engine runs smoothly, the automatic gearbox shifts properly, handling is nice and tight, and the brakes feel solid. The engine bay is clean and tidy, and the car has recently had a fluid change along with some aged rubber hoses replaced.

The only note from the owner is a small oil drip from the gearbox—caused by worn rubber O-rings. A new set is included in the glovebox, ready to be fitted. The original wheels and hubcaps are undamaged and fitted with good tires. The car is inspection-exempt and ready to be driven home.

  • Interior condition:

I have no issues or remarks—the interior still looks like new in every aspect. There’s no damage anywhere, and it hardly shows any signs of use at all.

  • Exterior condition:

The car presents beautifully, and on close inspection, there are no signs of welding or repairs—everything appears original, which matches the paintwork. There’s no indication that it has ever been repainted. The only exception is a small area of paint damage on the passenger door and rear wing edge that was touched up years ago (see picture). The owner chose not to repaint these panels to preserve the car’s originality.

The underbody is solid with no repairs—just a few minor spots of surface rust around the jack points, nothing of concern. All the chrome trim is bright and clean throughout.

  • General condition:

Finding another car that matches this one in condition, mileage, and documentation is virtually impossible—unless you can somehow convince the Volvo Museum to part with something from their collection. Any true Volvo enthusiast would be proud to own a car like this.
