Volvo 1800S Right Hand Drive — 1966

Bildeve AB in Helsingborg ordered, sold, and delivered the car in 1966. It's a one-owner car with the steering wheel on the right side, which is unusual.

"So to speak, the car's history creates the car. Owned and cared for by its original owner, it is a little worn in places as a 55-year-old car would be, but it is untouched and original."

Description

When Bertil, a future economics teacher, spent time in England after finishing his studies, he thought it was best to drive on the left side. Right-hand traffic would be implemented in Sweden the following year, 1967, but Bertil planned to visit England every year for vacation, and he did. Bertil eventually rose to the position of senior lecturer in economics at Lund University, where he commuted mostly by bicycle. He continued to teach his subject, and the sports car followed him all the way through his career. The meter has gone around once or twice, and there is a note on the fan about changing the cabin filter on 2001/03/20, when the meter read 00936 km. Bertil decides to sell his Volvo P1800S because he believes he is too old for it.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Bildeve in Helsingborg sold the car new and also performed the most recent service on it. The service included the replacement of brakes (yoke, discs, pads, and hoses), ignition parts (rotor, distributor cover, cables, and plugs), oil and filters, an air filter, and carburetor adjustment. It now starts easily, runs smoothly in the engine and gearbox, and has been exempt from inspection/MOT since 2017.

  • Interior condition:

Leather upholstery that is normally worn and in good condition, but could use some lubrication and coloring. The back seat cushion has been stored and thus appears to be brand new. The right door card is worn, but it can be easily repaired at a saddler with new material.

  • Exterior condition:

The paint is mostly original, though some areas have been improved. Because the tank lid bracket has rusted away, a new unpainted tank lid and bracket are included (see picture). The bumper chrome is a little oxidized, but it doesn't detract from the car's overall pleasant unrenovated appearance.

  • General condition:

An exciting single-owner car in historically excellent condition, with a lovely presentable overall impression and a nice provenance that represents everything a good car history should; its a car to nurture and preserve.
