Description
Four private owners are recorded under its more modern registration number, although its earlier ownership history is unfortunately unavailable. The second registered owner kept the car for approximately 20 years, followed by around 2 years with the third owner and an impressive 26 years with the fourth owner, from whom the current owner purchased the car.
The older renovation was most likely carried out during the long-term ownership period, estimated at least 15 years ago. It appears to have been completed to a professional standard, covering both the bodywork and mechanicals, which explains why the car still presents and drives so well today.
The car presents beautifully, with bright paintwork, clean chrome and no notable rust issues. The tidy interior has been reupholstered in a period-style cloth and is complemented by attractive green rubber mats. On the road it is a real pleasure to drive, running extremely well; only a routine service is recommended.
A charming early PV444, perfect for a Volvo enthusiast or collector and particularly fitting for shows and events in 2027, when Volvo celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
A simple cold start with a little choke and a minute to warm up, after which the engine runs extremely smoothly and steadily. On the road, the car is easy to drive, with a smooth-shifting gearbox, solid brakes and good road manners. The engine bay is also neat and tidy. As the car has seen little use over the past year, only a routine service is recommended. Finished with a nice set of wheels, chrome hubcaps and good whitewall tyres.
-
Interior condition
Interior is full of charm, with its original green dashboard complemented by beige Bakelite trims and knobs. The seats appear original in style, although they may have been reupholstered, and remain in good condition overall, with only some wear around the lower edges of the driver’s seat. Good door cards, panels and headliner, together with particularly nice green rubber flooring.
-
Exterior condition
Super good-looking car with straight bodywork and no signs of rust. The bonnet could benefit from a slight adjustment for a better fit, which should be a simple fix. The underbody is clean and shows no signs of rust problems.
The paintwork is bright and clean, with only a few minor cracks around the left side of the bulkhead, which are hardly noticeable, and one small mark on the lower left rear wing. The chrome work is bright and clean throughout. The front bumper has a small crack in the chrome behind the number plate, while the alloy trim around the windscreen has a small mark — please see the photos. -
General condition
Nearly 80 years old and still looking fantastic, this PV444 remains a real head-turner. An ideal classic for a Volvo enthusiast looking for a car to drive and enjoy straight away, with nothing more than a routine service recommended.
