"These vehicles were built to handle 45-degree slopes and large water-filled ditches, which can still be an advantage in today’s urban society. This example of the Englishmen’s favorite when it comes to Sports Utility Vehicles was approved by the vehicle inspection in 2023 and is in roadworthy condition. If desired, a careful machine polish could make it an even nicer car."

Description

The Land Rover Series III was produced between 1971 and 1985. This is a 1975 model that was sold new in Sweden.
The car has had 13 owners, with the current owner having owned it since 2023. It was inspected by the Swedish vehicle inspection authority on May 25, 2023, and is approved until further notice under the current veteran vehicle regulations. In 2007, a major overhaul was carried out, including a gearbox replacement and the installation of new tires. The next major overhaul was done by the current owner in 2023, when the entire braking system was refurbished and parts of the electrical system were replaced. The included snowplow blade mounts at the front, runs under the car, and attaches to the tow hitch. Previous owners have used the snowplow successfully. The car is registered as a light truck and can be driven with a regular car driver’s license. The odometer shows 64,500 km; we assume the meter has rolled over once, which would mean 164,500 km. The owner is selling the car because he wants to prioritize other enthusiast vehicles.
Included with the car is a pallet of various spare parts collected over the years, as well as the owner’s manual, repair manuals, and four extra wheels.

This is a distance auction. The photos and information about the car and its technical condition have been provided by the owner. BWA has therefore not inspected the car on site.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Engine replaced. An older Mercedes 240 diesel engine is installed, with a stated output of 72 hp. The car is registered and approved with this engine. It has a four-speed gearbox, which was replaced with a better used one in 2007. Both engine and transmission function satisfactorily. Equipped with a wireless remote-controlled Warn winch, which is also used to raise and lower the included snowplow blade. Naturally, the car has four-wheel drive – a hallmark of Land Rover – but power steering is missing on these older models.

  • Interior condition:

Rear seat and door panels in vinyl. The front seats have been replaced with newer ones. The interior is worn but functional. All instruments work. A fun detail is the working CB radio.

  • Exterior condition:

The body is aluminum and has held up well against oxidation damage. We do not know for sure whether the paint is original or an older repaint that has acquired some scratches and wear. The frame was inspected and painted in 2023. On the roof rack there are auxiliary lights and work lights.

  • General condition:

A robust Land Rover in well-functioning and user-friendly condition. Not in mint condition, but rather in a homely, usable state.

Facts about the model

Land Rover was introduced in 1948. The car was created by engineer Maurice Wilks, who worked as technical director at Rover. At his country house, he used an American Jeep left behind by the Americans after the war. From that, he got the idea to create a British version that could be used in agriculture. In 1947, a prototype was built under the name Land-Rover, a name that has remained ever since. In 1958, a revised version, the Series II, followed, which in 1971 was succeeded by the Series III and in 1983 by the 90 and 110 models. The Land Rover also came to be produced under license in several countries, including Germany, Belgium, and Spain.
