"The car feels solid and functions well mechanically."

Description

Finding such a fine Volkswagen in the deep forests of Härjedalen is an experience for any car enthusiast. The glossy black paint shines beautifully, and the engine sounds just as it should. The renovated brakes and a non-synchronized first gear transmission only enhance the experience. Even the red turn indicators on the door pillar shine brightly and function smoothly. The car’s interior likely looks almost as it did seventy years ago, albeit well-patinated. The odometer reads 18,449 km, likely having rolled over once, which aligns with the condition of the interior and several details. The owner has had the car for over 40 years and has driven it sparingly.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine and the four-speed transmission with a non-synchronized first gear function without any issues. It has an early model exchange engine with the engine code A008174. The designation “R” indicates that the block halves were machined before installation, and “X” stands for exchange engine. The electrical system works well, and the turn signals can be folded out without problems. A front anti-roll bar of a later date provides good stability for the car. The brakes have been renovated and function evenly. The exhaust system is complete, and the tailpipes have good chrome. The brakes were fully overhauled a few years ago and work smoothly and effectively.

The right door cannot be opened from the outside, and the spring that holds the hood up is missing. The fuel tank tap works in all three positions—open, closed, and reserve. The windshield washer operates with a pump button located to the left of the steering wheel. The car starts easily even with a tired six-volt battery.

  • Interior condition:

The light blue fabric upholstery may be original and has been protected by a seat cover. There is a tear at the top of the driver’s seat backrest, and the upholstery has several dirt stains. The door panels are likely refurbished and match the style of the rest of the interior. The headliner has a couple of tears and some stains.

The dashboard and steering wheel are in nice condition. The floor is completely intact under the mats and is in normal condition.

  • Exterior condition:

The paint is in good condition, likely repainted a long time ago. The body is complete and in good shape, with no signs of previous repairs. The undercarriage shows no signs of repairs and still has no visible signs of rust, except for a minor rust spot at the front. The sills and running boards are in normal condition.

There are two small drilled holes at the bottom front of the hood where some form of badge was mounted long ago; these holes are covered by blanking plugs. There is a small stone chip on the windshield in the lower right corner, and a minor dent/paint damage on the right rear fender.

  • General condition:

A nice, well-patinated black Volkswagen that runs well. The odometer reads 18,449 km, likely having rolled over once, which aligns with the condition of the interior and several details.

Owner's comment

The car is very easy to drive, even on rough gravel roads, and has brought me great joy since I inherited it from my father. Now the time has come to let it move on to its next owner.

Facts about the model

Only three owners, and it has been with the same family since 1977. The car has spent almost its entire life in Härjedalen.
