Description
This Opel was sold new in Linköping in 1958. The car didn’t change owners until 2007, when it moved to Värmland for four years. The current owner purchased it in 2011 and has since driven it only about 2,000 kilometers. The car underwent partial restoration in 2007, receiving a new two-tone paint job.
It has now been untouched for seven years and is in need of a start-up restoration and detailing. The brakes should also be overhauled. The interior is in good usable condition, but there is a damage in the seam between the vinyl and fabric on the driver’s seat, and cleaning the seats is recommended. The engine and transmission work well, but the car has only been driven at low speeds due to the condition of the brakes.
Some minor bubbles have appeared on parts of the body, along with a few small rust spots and paint peeling at the wheel arch edges. There is some rust at the bottom of the left sill. The mileage is likely around 116,660 kilometers, as the odometer has probably rolled over once.

Mechanical condition
The engine starts easily and sounds good. The owner reports that the gears shift smoothly (though it hasn’t been test-driven). One of the window cranks is loose, and there are a few lights that are not functioning. With a start-up restoration and a few minor fixes, it should be possible to make it a nice car in normal usable condition. The car comes with an additional transmission, an engine block, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, and a carburetor.

Interior condition
The interior is in usable condition and needs refreshing and cleaning. The driver’s seat is broken, as shown in the pictures. The door panels are in good condition but require cleaning. The dashboard is nice and painted in the car’s lovely green color.

As mentioned above, there are several areas for improvement, but overall, it is relatively well-preserved. Please refer to the text in the description for more details.

The overall impression is nice from a distance, but there are definitely areas that could be improved upon when viewed up close. It’s a beautiful car model that is worth investing a little money in.

Facts about the model
The Opel Rekord P1 was initially known as the Opel Olympia Rekord P for its first two years. It was introduced in August 1957, replacing the previous model, the Opel Olympia Rekord. The P1 was larger than its predecessor and featured panoramic windows at the front and rear that wrapped around the corners. This design mimicked popular American models from GM, as well as its corporate cousin, the Vauxhall Victor FA, which had been introduced a few months earlier.
In West Germany, the Opel Rekord P1 became the second best-selling model during its production years, surpassed only by the smaller and more affordable Volkswagen Type 1. Despite this success, the model did not have a long lifespan and was replaced in the summer of 1960 by the Rekord P2. The old body continued to be produced until 1962 under the name Opel 1200, a simplified low-cost version.
