Description
He owned the car for almost 50 years, until the current owner’s father bought it in 2013. This is how it was described in the Blocket advertisement at the time:
“A unique example of a Volvo PV Sport! One owner, born in 1937, since the car was new. The car has covered a guaranteed 110,000 kilometres and comes with a complete service history. Please note: the car is in original condition and 100% rust-free. It has not been driven in winter for the past 47 years and has always been kept in a heated garage. Must be seen.”
A deal was made and the car was brought home to Valdemarsvik. Unfortunately, its new owner did not have much opportunity to enjoy the car before passing away in 2014, after which his son inherited it.
He has had little time to use the PV, and it has covered only a handful of kilometres since then. The car has now been serviced with new spark plugs, engine oil and filter, and is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The car runs exceptionally well and everything functions as it should. It has recently been serviced with new engine oil, filter and spark plugs.
The fitted petrol heater has been disconnected and has not been tested. The tyres are old and should be replaced before the car is put into regular use. -
Interior condition
An exceptionally fine original interior with very few signs of use. The carpets are in excellent condition without any signs of cracking, and the original rubber mats are also very well preserved.
The upper section of the dashboard most likely has some cracks that have been covered with electrical tape. The aftermarket transistor radio, stereo and additional brake light have not been tested. -
Exterior condition
Exceptionally fine original paintwork, free from rust or damage. The front wings and boot lid have most likely been replaced, as there is a slight difference in shade.
All chrome is in very good condition with nothing in particular to remark on. The car is also fitted with attractive original Volvo wing-mounted mirrors.
Older tyres are mounted on the original wheels and should be replaced due to their age. -
General condition
A rare opportunity to acquire a highly sought-after PV Sport in exceptionally original condition.

Facts about the model
Engine: 1.8-litre four-cylinder B18
Power: approximately 90 hp in the most common Sport versions
Transmission: 4-speed manual
Drive: Rear-wheel drive
Body: 2-door saloon
Top speed: around 150 km/h
The Sport model was equipped with twin carburettors and was significantly livelier than the standard PV. It also became very popular in Swedish rallying, earning the PV 544 Sport a reputation as both a robust and highly capable competition car.
Historical significance
The PV 544 Sport is particularly interesting because it combines Volvo’s traditional durability with a more performance-oriented character. The model played an important role in Volvo’s rally successes during the 1960s, and many examples were used hard in competition.
Today, the value of a PV 544 Sport is largely determined by model year, originality, level of restoration, matching numbers, documentation and overall condition. A well-preserved and correct original example can be considerably more valuable than a standard PV 544.
