Description
All tires have been replaced – the rear ones about two to three years ago, and the front ones this spring. The owner has mainly used the car on fine days to enjoy open-top driving. As he now has more grandchildren, he is looking for a convertible with more seats.
The BMW is in well-kept condition and passed its inspection in March 2025. The car comes with two sets of keys, a stamped service book, and some additional documentation (see photos).

Facts about the model
That changed in 1989 with the launch of the distinctive BMW Z1. The ‘Z’ stood for Zukunft, the German word for ‘future’. Its most striking feature was its doors, which did not open in the traditional way but instead slid down into the high door sills. The car was not a commercial success at the time, but today it is a highly sought-after collector’s item.
Around the same time, the Mazda MX-5 Miata appeared, turning the market upside down by reintroducing the concept of a simple, lightweight roadster in the spirit of the 1950s and 60s. Demand for small, lively convertibles proved to be enormous, leaving many car manufacturers restless. If the Z1 had been something of a special test balloon, it gave BMW a taste for more.
In 1994, BMW unveiled its answer: the new Z3 (E36/7). It became an instant success—so much so that James Bond even drove one on screen. Produced from model years 1995 to 2002, it later gained a distinctive sibling in the Z3 Coupé (E36/8), introduced in 1999. Both followed a traditional layout with rear-wheel drive. Engines ranged from inline-fours to inline-sixes, 1.8L to 3.2L, producing between 116 hp and 321 hp, the latter reserved for the M model. Gearboxes included five- and six-speed manuals or four- and five-speed automatics.
In April 1999, the Z3 received a facelift with a redesigned rear, updates to the engine range, and interior detail changes.
In total, 279,273 Z3 Roadsters and 17,815 Coupés were built.
