"A turn-key classic in usable condition."

Description

This Mini Cooper has been restored by a previous owner. The body is in usable condition, prepared to be enjoyed without the worry of it being damaged through regular use. The car consists of parts from different model years but holds its own as a Cooper. It features the classic Cooper elements, such as the three gauges, brocade upholstery, and a black roof. It is also equipped with a Mountney sports steering wheel, wheel arch extensions, Carmona wheels, a tachometer, a steering wheel lowering bracket, and an RC40 exhaust system. While we don't know if the engine has been rebuilt, it starts easily and performs as a 998 Cooper engine should. A very nice Cooper for someone who wants a ready-to-drive classic. The loose seats shown in the pictures are included. It has been inspected and is ready for use.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Runs well in both engine and drivetrain. It’s lively and starts easily. The brakes engage smoothly and effectively. The minimalist instrumentation, including the oil pressure gauge, speedometer, temperature gauge, and tachometer, is functional. The trip meter has most likely reset at least once.

  • Interior condition:

Gold brocade upholstery is in good condition, with a few stains, particularly in the back seat. The door panels, carpets, and headliner are also in good condition.

  • Exterior condition:

Older repaint in usable condition. The chrome work shows some wear. Door fit is not perfect but functional.

  • General condition:

A perfect Cooper for someone who wants a car to drive rather than just look at. It’s functional and ready to drive.

Facts about the model

They were produced under the BMC umbrella with the names Austin and Morris, as well as luxury versions Wolseley and Riley. This was known as "badge engineering" because it mostly involved swapping badges and grilles. The first "dog kennel," or Mini as it was called elsewhere in the world, was introduced in 1959. It was revolutionary due to its smart and space-saving design, created by Alec Issigonis. Issigonis envisioned it as a simple and affordable car with good driving characteristics, which it turned out to be.

One person who truly appreciated the car was John Cooper, who at the time ran a racing team with Formula cars in the top league. He used BMC engines in these cars and knew their potential. An idea was born. John Cooper contacted Alec Issigonis, who was not at all interested in adding a more powerful engine to his beloved Mini. He considered it a car for the people, not a racing tool as John Cooper envisioned.

In 1961, John Cooper eventually got his way with a larger, 997cc (57 hp) version of the original 850 (37 hp) engine. The new Mini Cooper was born. The Cooper received different upholstery and disc brakes, along with a distinctive color for the roof. A more powerful variant was introduced in 1963, produced in a shorter series: the Cooper S 1071cc, which also featured larger and more powerful disc brakes.

In 1964, a lot happened. Three new engine variants were developed: Cooper S 1275cc, 970cc, and a more civilized engine for the street, 998cc for the regular Cooper. The reason for the numerous engine variants was the different class divisions based on engine size used in car racing. There were classes for cars up to 850 cc, 1000 cc, 1150 cc, and 1300 cc. Thus, there was a Mini for every class.
