Description
Over the years, the car has been serviced and cared for and has performed well. Last year, the carburettor began to show signs of wear, so a brand-new Holley two-barrel carburettor was fitted in place of the original unit. At the same time, the engine received a more extensive service, including replacement of the camshaft drive.
The owner has now decided to focus on his other enthusiast vehicles and is therefore selling the Mercury.
Two sets of ignition keys are included with the car. The spare wheel and jack are missing.
This is a remote auction. The photographs and information regarding the vehicle and its technical condition have been provided by the owner. Bilweb Auctions has therefore not inspected the car in person at the seller’s location.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Equipped with a Ford 390 FE V8 with a two-barrel carburettor, rated at 279 hp, and a three-speed Multi-Drive automatic transmission. The engine and gearbox perform well.
A new two-barrel Holley carburettor was fitted in 2025 as part of a service, at which time the camshaft sprocket and timing chain were also replaced. -
Interior condition
The dashboard is well preserved, and all gauges are working apart from the ammeter. The door panels are in good condition.
The front seat cushion is cracked and has received a quick repair using a vinyl-like material. The rear seat is intact and in good condition, and the headlining also presents well. The carpet has faded from sun exposure.
The luggage compartment is missing its carpet, and the metal floor shows surface rust. Tapping the floor may reveal that sections require replacement, although this has not been possible for us to verify. -
Exterior condition
We believe the car has received an older repaint. There are some exterior blemishes, including areas of surface rust and stone chips.
Early signs of rust are present along the lower edges of the body, including the bottoms of the doors and the rear lower sections of the front wings.
The bumpers and brightwork are in usable condition, with some surface rust on the bumpers and oxidation to the die-cast chrome trim.
The rear window is designed to open, but is currently secured in the closed position due to worn gears in the window mechanism.
See pictures for further details of the exterior condition. -
General condition
This model is relatively uncommon in Sweden. There are a few issues to note, mainly cosmetic in nature. Overall, the Mercury appears to be in sensible and well-functioning usable condition.

Owner's comment
Facts about the model
During the 1960s, Mercury was positioned as a sportier and more sophisticated alternative to Ford. Rather than simply changing the badges, Ford gave its Mercury models longer wheelbases, additional sound insulation and more luxurious interiors.
For 1965, Mercury underwent a complete redesign from the ground up. With all-new styling, a new chassis and a more upmarket character, the cars were promoted as being “built in the Lincoln tradition”, offering buyers a genuine luxury-car feel at a lower price.
The 1965 model year was a strong success, with more than 80,000 Monterey models produced. One of the best-known body styles was the four-door sedan with the Breezeway roof. This featured a reverse-slanted rear window that could be lowered electrically.
The Monterey was the entry-level model in Mercury’s full-size range for 1965, positioned below the Montclair and Park Lane.
