Description
The current owner purchased the Magnette in April 2008 on Eckerö. At the time, the car was in standard used condition and had only covered 107,440 km. According to the previous owner, the car had undergone a full restoration 10–15 years earlier before he acquired it.
The current owner hasn’t touched the bodywork but has reworked parts of the earlier engine rebuild. He also refurbished the clutch and gearbox. During the engine work, new valve seats made of better material were installed for the exhaust valves. At the same time, other improvements were made: the rear leaf springs were re-arched, the front springs were replaced, and new shock absorbers were fitted all around.
The car has only been used for commuting and short summer trips. The odometer now reads 227,480 km, which corresponds to approximately 5,880 km per year over his 17 years of ownership. The car comes with two sets of keys. No service book is available.

Mechanical condition
Runs well in both engine and drivetrain. As the car has mostly been stationary in recent years, a thorough check and inspection of its various systems is recommended. No radio. The windshield washer is not functioning.

Interior condition
The interior is in worn condition—see photos. The door panels are in better shape. The headliner has a few small holes in the fabric. The floor mats are not original and show signs of wear. Nice dashboard and wood trim. The doors have good weather seals, but the trunk seal has been overpainted and doesn’t seal as well.

Exterior condition
Older repaint in decent but slightly worn condition. Rust is present, mainly along the lower edges of the doors but also in other areas—see photos. The chrome trim is in somewhat worn condition.

General condition
A roadworthy MG in usable condition, inspected and approved by the vehicle testing authority. With a bit of care and attention, it has the potential to be even better.

Facts about the model
MG's new sedan model marked a break from the brand’s earlier traditions. It was the first to feature a monocoque body and was powered by BMC’s B-series engine—a pure Austin design. The body was shared with the Wolseley 4/44 but was lower in height. In addition, the MG featured an improved rear suspension with a substantial torque arm linking the differential to the body, further enhancing the car’s excellent road handling characteristics.
The Magnette ZA was introduced in the autumn of 1953. Early models had a simple metal dashboard painted to resemble wood. In late 1954, an updated dashboard with real wood trim was introduced. A total of 18,076 ZA units were produced.
In October 1956, the Magnette ZB was launched. It featured a more powerful engine thanks to larger carburetors and a higher compression ratio. Externally, the ZB received updated chrome trim, and a luxury version called the Varitone was introduced, offering two-tone paint and a larger rear window.
Production of the ZB version totaled 18,524 cars.
