"It’s rare to find a car in this condition, having been kept in a private collection since the 1970s. It needs a few minor fixes and an inspection before returning to the road."

"It’s rare to find a car in this condition, having been kept in a private collection since the 1970s. It needs a few minor fixes and an inspection before returning to the road."

Description

The car was first sold new in 1955 and then acquired by a new owner in Simrishamn in 1957.
In 1973, the car was purchased by Niklasson’s Biltjänst in Emmaboda, where it was displayed in their collection. At that time, the engine required an overhaul, which was carried out. The company’s owner later bought the car privately but kept it stored in the collection’s dry and well-preserved facilities. It was regularly started and occasionally driven around the yard. Upon his passing, ownership was transferred to his son, the current owner.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car runs well, the engine was rebuilt in the 1970s and has barely been driven since. The brakes and other mechanical components are functional but require an inspection as the car has seen little use for over 50 years. One engine mount has collapsed, causing a pulley to rub against the housing and produce a noise, which should be addressed before the car is put back into use. The car has not been test-driven over any longer distance, only moved for the purpose of photography.

  • Interior condition:

Original interior in very good and lightly used condition. The door panels on the right front door and the left rear door have been replaced and do not match the rest of the interior.
Equipped with a luxurious Blaupunkt radio with four speakers, which is functional, although we were unable to tune in any station.

  • Exterior condition:

As far as can be judged, the car still retains its original paint with a nice preserved shine. However, there are some damages and blemishes, including on the right front fender, left rear door and fender, rear bumper, as well as a few minor scratches. The chrome is in good condition, with some pitting on a few details. The tires have good tread but are old.

  • General condition:

This was Mercedes’ top model in the 1950s, here in well-preserved original condition with some patina.

Facts about the model

The Mercedes-Benz W186, better known as the Mercedes 300 'Adenauer', was produced between 1951 and 1957. It was the brand’s flagship after World War II and became a symbol of Mercedes’ revival as a luxury car manufacturer. The car earned the nickname ‘Adenauer’ after West Germany’s Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, who frequently used the model as his official state car.
