"A superbly comfortable car to drive, powered by the 2.8L M130 straight-six engine—a SOHC design with two valves per cylinder and Bosch mechanical fuel injection, the same engine found in the 280 SL."

Description

This Mercedes W180 was originally sold new by Philipssons Mercedes dealer in 1970. Over the years it has had a total of 13 registered owners, 7 of them private, with long-term ownership up until 2013. The car is believed to have been repainted around 2015.

The current owner purchased it just over two years ago and has since invested well over 120,000 SEK in documented receipts for repairs, maintenance, and additional replacement parts. Included with the sale are various new /used good condition components such as a chrome grille, front bumpers, chrome trims, and lights (see pictures). With a weekend’s work refitting the included chrome parts, the car’s appearance could be lifted even further.

Recent work carried out includes:

Replacement of the left front brake caliper, rear brake shoes, and brake fluid
Repair of upper control arms and replacement of front suspension mounting bushings, plus left tie rod
Repair of lower ball joints
Replacement of both rear wheel bearings and rear axle seals (previously causing “leaking” brake shoes)
Rear suspension modification (customer-supplied material)
Accelerator pedal repair
Replacement of gear linkage bushings
Rust repairs in several areas
Wheel alignment
Oil service
Installation of stainless steel exhaust system (half kit)
Final wheel alignment

According to older inspection records, the car showed 10,662 km in 2009 and today it reads 12,375 km. This means it has only been driven 1,713 km in the last 15 years, almost exclusively summer miles. Considering the age and history, the total mileage is most likely at least 123,750 km, although this cannot be fully verified.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine starts immediately, even from cold, and runs smoothly with no unusual noises. The gearbox shifts easily, the brakes are strong, and the car handles well with a solid feel on the road. The engine bay would benefit from a general clean, with only minor oil dampness around the valve cover. Wheels and tires are in good condition all around. The car is inspected and ready to drive.

  • Interior condition:

Interior is presentable, with undamaged seats front and rear that would benefit from a fabric clean. Carpets are good but slightly sun-faded, and the door cards are nice apart from a small damage on the driver’s side (see picture). The rear left window seal is worn, and the driver’s side wooden window trim.

The dashboard is in good condition with original working gauges. Minor details need attention: the heater wire needs refitting, the cardboard under-panel is missing, no radio is fitted, and the glovebox handle occasionally misaligns.

  • Exterior condition:

Bodywork is presentable with no dents or major rust issues. An older repair is visible on the left rear wheel arch and door corner, with some work also done under the door edges. The paint has a nice shine and the car looks clean overall, with only a few small marks and scratches. The underbody shows signs of earlier welding and some surface rust in places, but no holes. Replacement chrome parts are included, such as grille, front bumper, and side trims, addressing previous rust damaged one currently fitted.

  • General condition:

It’s an ideal summer car, ready to be enjoyed straight away. Replacing the worn chrome trim with the included new pieces will further enhance its appearance.
