"A classic Opel coupe that might even soften the resolve of dedicated enthusiasts of other brands, making them reconsider their allegiance."

Description

It was delivered new to its first owner, Lennart, in Visby in March 1966. Lennart worked at the Opel dealership and drove the car 7000 kilometers in the first year. Gunnar, also from Visby, bought it in March the following year. He drove his Rekord very sparingly, took good care of it, and always kept it in his garage every night. The car received service as needed and was seldom or never driven in inclement weather. The current owner took over the car a few years ago upon Gunnar’s recommendation. Today, the odometer reads just over 91,300 kilometers, and with all the inspection records provided, it is highly likely that this is the total mileage. The last approved inspection was done on May 29, 2017, and the car became exempt from inspection when the new regulations came into effect on April 20, 2018.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily and smoothly, feels solid in controls, steering, gearbox, and wheel alignment. The engine bay is in original colors but shows some residues of lime, paint, or other substances in the right corner from the front.

  • Interior condition:

Beautiful untouched interior with everything in order, clean and intact. Original seat belts can be tangled on the way to the back seat, but over the years, it’s likely that few, if any, have encountered this issue. The metal dashboard with the original Blaupunkt radio, clock, emblem, and sporty gearshift console all feel right, complemented by the fine door panels, headliner, and carpets.

  • Exterior condition:

Original paint in excellent condition; there are no records suggesting it has been repainted, and it doesn’t appear so either. The chrome details, such as the bumpers, trim, and stylish hubcaps, are in great shape. The underbody is well-maintained, with the original red paint visible on the rust-protected beams where jacks have been used over the years.

  • General condition:

Well-maintained with few previous owners and in attractive original condition. On Gotland, roads are not salted in winter, so a car that has spent its active years on the island is preserved better than others, especially when it has hardly been out in the snow either.
