Description

This vehicle was registered for use in Sweden on June 3, 1985, and appears to have led a calm life with relatively few owners. The current owner acquired the car in March 2019, at which point the mileage was just over 71,100 miles. The current mileage is 76,881 miles (12,378 kilometers). During the owner’s tenure, the car has been garage-kept and driven only during the lighter half of the year. The rear brakes have been addressed. Service and maintenance have been handled by a knowledgeable Jaguar mechanic from England who works for the owner. The car comes with the owner’s manual, service book, other literature, and various receipts and inspection reports. An interesting detail is the simple manual for the trip computer. The car is inspected and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car starts easily and runs smoothly in both the engine and drivetrain. During a test drive at a moderate country road pace, the steering, shifting with kickdown, brakes, and other systems functioned well. There is a slight jolt when engaging drive, and a small “clunking” noise in the suspension, but these are relatively normal for the model, year, and mileage. It hasn’t been inspected on a lift, but what could be seen appeared to be in good condition, and there were no issues noted during the vehicle inspection. As with any older classic, there are things that may need attention, but overall, the car seemed to perform well.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is classic Jaguar and XJ6, featuring fine details. The seats, rear seat, door panels, and trim are in well-preserved and attractively patinated condition. The wood details are also in good shape with some cracking. Everything has aged gracefully. The carpets and floor mats are in good condition, and the steering wheel, controls, and instrumentation are well-maintained, with most electrical functions working properly. The air conditioning function is uncertain and needs to be checked. The rear reading light (right side) is incomplete. It has a newer JVC stereo, but the electric antenna is non-functional. The electric sunroof worked well.

  • Exterior condition:

The paintwork is in good condition with light wear. The chrome, glass, plastic, rubber, and lighting details are all in good shape and at a consistent level. The wheels and tires are in good condition, though the hubcaps show some wear, and there is minor scuffing and discoloration on the wheels. The engine bay and trunk are in good condition.

  • General condition:

An XJ6 has achieved cult status and is an icon from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. This example is in good usable condition, with details that can be refined. As it approaches its 40th anniversary, it has attained both classic and enthusiast status. Being Swedish-sold with relatively few owners and low mileage makes it a historically interesting vehicle.

Facts about the model

The XJ6 model was launched at the London Motor Show in September 1968 and became an immediate success. With this single model, Jaguar made a significant advancement. Several “outdated models” disappeared, and here stood a modern, attractive vehicle at a reasonable price. The order books quickly filled up, and once again, the epithet “pace, space, and grace” became synonymous with Jaguar. The following year, a more luxurious version, the Daimler Sovereign, was introduced. Models with a vinyl roof were also given the name Vanden Plas.

In 1972, the XJ12 with a 12-cylinder engine and an extended L version were introduced. The Daimler version also received these attributes the following year. This model was the last to have input from the company’s founder, Sir William Lyons, in its development.

For the 1974 model year, Series II arrived with changes such as a new grille and higher bumpers. Then, in 1980, Series III was introduced with an update from Pininfarina. Although at first glance it didn’t seem significantly different, numerous small adjustments improved space, increased glass areas, reduced aerodynamic drag, and gave a more modern image.

On the technical side, the basic concept continued with cast iron but offered better performance and, above all, lower fuel consumption. A total of 132,852 Series III models were built.
