"The charm and the idea that a young, enthusiastic man could purchase such a gem and then own and care for it throughout his life evoke, and should evoke, a deep sense of reverence when considering the purchase and future ownership."

Description

It was sold new in Visby in April 1948 to a road worker, Gösta Andersson, from Sjonhem parish in Roma Kloster. The bike changed hands on the island a few times until 1957, when Allan saw it standing in Visby, already removed from the register. At the time, he was doing his military service and bought the bike as a small project. Since then, it has always been with him. During the documentation, we roll it out of the smithy/garage on the large farm and pump air into the tires. It rolls easily and feels solid to sit on. We maneuver it around for different angles for photos, pondering the controls and riding technique—foot clutch, hand shifter, high and low timing… the engine at least turns over with the large kick pedal.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine was not started during the documentation, but it turns over easily. Allan hasn’t ridden it since 2005, but he would occasionally go out to the workshop and kick-start the engine. There’s a bit of surface rust on the cooling fins and screw heads, but otherwise, it remains attractively unpolished.

  • Interior condition:

The leather-covered saddle with decorations is in great condition, without any damage, and the handlebar grips are equally well-preserved.

  • Exterior condition:

The red paint has a nice patina; it was repainted sometime in the 1970s, but overall, the paint has held up well, giving the bike a pleasant and attractive appearance.

  • General condition:

Extra charming and attractive overall impression. A bike to gently revive mechanically and ride as is. Service, fix, and change the tires.
