"To take on a project to learn, prove to oneself that it is possible, and then be satisfied with the outcome."

Description

These unusual parameters involve a prospective Chalmers engineer deciding not to become an engineer who knows nothing about cars. From being relatively uninterested in cars at an enthusiast level, he approaches the project with a new enthusiasm fueled by a blend of curiosity, determination, and a touch of good old-fashioned grit in a kind of academic engineer's format. It involves dwelling in his parents' garage, late-night sandblasting during free moments while working shifts at Volvo, and meticulous calculations and documentation of the project during his time at Chalmers.

The car was sold new by Atteviks in Jönköping in August 1980 to a man named Arne Strömblad in Taberg. He eventually moved to Kristinehamn, and an inspection was carried out there in 1994 at 171 930 kilometers. After that, there is no documentation of inspections, and Arne sold the Golf to Ingrid in 2003. It remained in Kristinehamn, was taken over by a relative in 2013, and then sold to the current owner in 2014. Between 1994 and today, it has only traveled approximately 800 kilometers.

There is excellent original documentation along with a pleasant restoration documentation in the form of a photo book that the owner has produced, and an extra copy has been ordered for a new owner.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine has received an internal overhaul with inspection of bearings, connecting rods and pistons, and the valves have been lapped. All fasteners in the engine compartment and front suspension are galvanized. Renovated and new braking system. New alternator, water pump, and timing belt. Breakerless ignition system.

  • Interior condition:

Untouched interior with original upholstery that hangs in the fabric due to normal wear and tear. Nothing is broken, it's just the fabric that has lost its tension. One can choose to see it as a pleasant provenance, simply. Good door panels, carpets, and headliner. Older radio without function.

  • Exterior condition:

Qualitatively body-painted from scratch. The green color was chosen completely subjectively and not based on a Volkswagen original paint color chart. Original Scirocco generation 1 Tarantula aluminum wheels add a little extra vintage GTI sporty feeling.

  • General condition:

Fun ambition behind a renovated vintage Golf. Some minor details to fix for a new owner to take care of.
