"A summer-friendly Jaguar youngtimer from the era that often precisely defines the concept of youngtimers – fun cars for the success ideal of the 1980s."

Description

It was delivered new in February 1988 by Scanouto in Gothenburg as a company car to Gardenia AB, a company. The service book is neatly filled in until 1996 and 120 000 km, and a few years later, the car changes ownership. It doesn't travel far after the change of ownership, and the current owner purchases the XJ6 in 2009 when it is in need of some overhaul. He simply manufactures a stand on which it is mounted, and the car hangs there for 10 years while it is thoroughly cleaned underneath, and all minor rust spots are addressed. The body is also sanded down, a temporary paint booth is set up in the garage, and an acquaintance who works as a painter assists with the painting job.

In the 1980s, car manufacturers and tire makers developed new wheel and tire dimensions to move away from inch sizes, such as Michelin's TRX tires with a size of 390 mm, roughly 15.5 inches. These tires and wheels were, in many ways, superior to inch sizes. However, the market was not ready for this transition. Original aluminum wheels for the XJ40 were also in that dimension. These come with the car, but for new tires in that dimension, the selection is very expensive and limited.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Under the hood, it looks like it did at Jaguar in the eighties; somewhat intimidating for the DIY mechanic but still accessible in some way. The engine starts easily, feels good, and the gearbox shifts smoothly. All electrical equipment works well, including the digital displays. The green container at the front right in the engine compartment is for the then-criticized hydraulic level control at the rear, which used the same mineral oil as Citroën's classic integrated hydraulic system, LHM. On many cars, the level control was disconnected or removed, and the same was done with this example.

  • Interior condition:

Nice leather interior in classic British style, along with the walnut veneer inserts, where mainly the center console has some wrinkles and cracks. Headliner and carpets are in good condition, and the sunroof reportedly doesn't leak, according to the owner. The interior trim around the rear window has come loose at the top.

  • Exterior condition:

A clean and presentable exterior with a few minor notes; a couple of blisters at the lower edge of the windshield and at the front of the hood. The original rims with old tires are included, as well as a set of winter tires on steel rims. The aftermarket 16-inch rims with tires currently on the car make a noticeable sound against the inner fenders at maximum steering angle.

  • General condition:

Enthusiastically restored with admirable precision and dedication over 10 years. Today, it is a presentable and usable Jaguar classic without making any major demands on fine car treatment. Simply an elegant and dignified summer driver.

Facts about the model

The XJ6 model designation debuted in 1968. The first XJ6 model was developed through the Series III and was available with a V12 alongside the new XJ40 until 1992. XJ40 is the internal designation for the entirely new generation that the X300 (1995) and X308 (1998) also belong to. The latter generation featured a V8 engine and was officially called the XJ8.

Daimler represents a more luxurious variant of Jaguar. It was available in Vanden Plas trim, sometimes with the addition of "Majestic" for kings and statesmen. A Daimler is quickly identified by the wavelike upper edge of the grille. The term "Sovereign" is the most common surname for Jaguar XJ6, which typically includes leather upholstery, and not much else is desired when it comes to Jaguar.
