Facts about the model
The car featured front-wheel drive, a transversely mounted five-cylinder engine and an entirely new rear suspension design, called Delta-link. The engine was a 2.5-litre five-cylinder petrol engine producing approximately 140 hp in base form.
1992 was one of the very first model years, making early examples particularly interesting for collectors. The sedan model came first, while the estate version, the 850 Estate, was presented later.
Technical summary:
Engine: 5-cylinder, 2.5 litre
Power: approximately 140 hp
Drive: front-wheel drive
Gearbox: 5-speed manual or automatic
Body: 4-door sedan
Introduction: 1991
Model year: 1992
The Volvo 850 also formed the basis for the later, more sought-after 850 T-5, T-5R and R variants, and the model also attracted considerable attention through Volvo's commitment to BTCC racing.
A Volvo 850 from 1992 is therefore an early example and can be particularly interesting if it is well-preserved, has low mileage and extensive original specification.
