"Pleasant and well-maintained Jaguar that runs well mechanically and features an inviting interior in fine condition."

Description

This Jaguar was sold new by the BMC dealer K.-H. Björngård AB to a doctor in Uppsala. It was the last model year with the MK2 bodywork, and the doctor chose, among other things, a sunroof, fog lights, leather upholstery and electric rear window heating. The bodywork was painted in Opalescent Silver Blue. The doctor chose an alternative delivery option; he took delivery of the car in London on 10 June 1968, and after a holiday trip the car came home to Sweden. The Jaguar was repainted in the original colour in 1999, when the wood trim was also restored and the car received a new headlining. In 2000 the first owner sold his car. The current owner is the fifth in line, and he has owned the Jaguar since 2019. The condition has improved steadily over the years, and the car has, among other things, received new door trim, a stainless steel exhaust system and electronic ignition. A Tuff-Kote rust protection treatment was carried out in 2001. The current owner has, among other things, had the camshaft, overdrive and power steering overhauled. A folder with documentation of the work carried out on the car is available, and it also includes original purchase documents. Included with the purchase are a wire wheel and a carton containing parts and repair manuals. Two sets of keys are included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts and runs well with good engine and gearbox performance, the latter equipped with an overdrive. Electrical functions such as windscreen wipers and fan were tested and found to be working at the time of documentation.

  • Interior condition

Very pleasant interior with blue leather and an abundance of fine wood. The manual sunroof has been tested and functions properly. Modern seat belts are fitted both front and rear. A window trim on the left rear door is loose. The engine compartment is clean and tidy.

  • Exterior condition

Overall a neat and fine car. At detail level the door gaps are somewhat uneven. Some surface rust is present in a few places, and minor bubbles are visible on the left front fender. Above the windscreen there are some marks that may possibly be polished away – see image. Chrome details such as the bumpers have become scarred with age.

  • General condition

A well-functioning Jaguar. It is completely roadworthy and requires no immediate attention from the next owner.

Facts about the model

Jaguar Mk2 was introduced in 1959 and was an advanced development of the Jaguar 2.4, which was launched as a 1956 model year. The Jaguar 2.4 was the marque's first car with a unitary construction body. With the Mk2, the body received thinner roof pillars, the chassis was developed and disc brakes were standard. From the start, the Mk2 was available with three different six-cylinder engine options. From 1965, the model received a fully synchromesh gearbox. The following year, Jaguar became part of the BMC group. In September 1967, the Mk2 was renamed 240 with a 2.5-litre engine and 340 with a 3.4-litre engine. In September 1968, the Jaguar 340 was discontinued after just twelve months and 2,800 examples produced.
