"The fine and enjoyable cars from BMW's 3-series have set the standard, and the open cars are no exception. This car has in recent years only been driven during the light half of the year. There are details to attend to, but on the whole this is a fine and user-friendly car, not least for those who want a family car that offers driving pleasure and open-air motoring."

Description

This car was imported from Germany and registered for traffic here on 10 December 2008. The current owner took over the car in June 2019. He is a vehicle enthusiast with several classic cars and sports cars in his garage. The BMW has been used as an enthusiast's car during the light half of the year. During his ownership, it has been driven barely 10,000 km (approximately 1,500 km/year), mostly on country roads in Roslagen. He has serviced it with oil changes and filters. The service book is filled in.

The car comes with instruction manual, service book and inspection report from its time in Sweden. There are also various receipts and documents. Two sets of keys.

The car is inspected and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The silky smooth straight-six with 170 hp does its job well and starts easily, running smoothly and steadily but with power when needed. During a shorter test drive on minor country roads, everything was found to function well, such as steering, clutch, gearbox, road holding and brakes. A comfortable and user-friendly cabriolet from Bavaria. Not inspected on a lift, but what could be seen looked good. No remarks at the vehicle inspections.

  • Interior condition

Interior and upholstery in good original condition with some patina. Good comfort in the seats with some wear and a repair to the backrest on the driver's seat. Steering wheel, controls, dashboard and gauges in good condition. All electrical functions appear to work and the AC has been recently serviced and cools nicely. Good luggage compartment, incomplete tool kit. The original sound system has been replaced with a modern installation featuring Bluetooth, telephone, navigation and reversing camera. Works well.

  • Exterior condition

Fine and well-preserved paintwork in Orient Blue metallic (colour code 317). A classic colour that appears almost black but which gleams increasingly blue in sunlight. Good used condition throughout and in detail with mild patina consistent with age and mileage. Trim, badges and lighting details are in good condition. The rear lights appear to be newer. The wheels show some wear and light scratching. Good Hankook tyres. The engine bay is in good condition. Good and tight hood with fine electric function.

  • General condition

With great strides, this 323 is making its way into the classic and enthusiast segment. With its fine and acclaimed engine as well as classic colour combination, it is an excellent representative of the small premium cars around the millennium. A dream car for many at that time and sought-after as an enthusiast vehicle today. Here in a ready-to-drive and sprightly example that is largely in original specification with a few details that need attention.

Facts about the model

When BMW accelerated its operations and results with the Neue Klasse and the nimble 02 models during the 1960s and 1970s, it was time to shift up another gear heading into the 1980s. West Germany was still what mattered and quality was the watchword. German premium and sports car manufacturers became the benchmark for the whole world and BMW was among the top, their 3-series has now been produced by the German car manufacturer since 1975. Now they are on the seventh generation. The fourth generation of the BMW 3-series was called E46 and was produced from 1998 to 2006. All six-cylinder engines were inline engines with dual overhead camshafts and were fine driving machines and road cars. For the 2002 model year came a light facelift and for the 2006 model year came the successor E90 but that is another story.
