Description

It was delivered to its first Swedish owner from Ängelholm in October 1975 by the Datsun dealer Bilprisma i Ängelholm AB. The car has had two actual users, both of whom drove it relatively sparingly. The current, and formally third, owner’s father bought the car in 1987 and, after a couple of stamped services in the service booklet, kept his own informative and entertaining handwritten log with meticulous notes.

The total mileage today is just under 110,000 km, and the notes reveal that the odometer rolled over as late as January 2015. Over the past 10 years, the car has only covered just over 10,800 km. Its longest trip was to northern Sweden one summer, evidenced by a small sticker and confirmed by the current owner, the son who inherited the car from his father.

All inspection records from the late 1980s onward are preserved, with the most recent approved inspection carried out on 2023-01-02, followed by a re-check after the rear brake issues (dragging and uneven braking) had been fixed — namely the replacement of one rear brake caliper.

A box with both used and some new spare parts is included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily and sounds right. The mechanical quality of Japanese cars may not have been fully appreciated when the car was new, but today it carries a completely different positive resonance and awareness.

  • Interior condition:

Interior in good and normally used condition relative to the mileage. Small tear in the driver’s seat cushion. Good carpets, door panels, glass, and headliner. The tailgate struts have lost strength, hence a custom wooden support for the hatch.

  • Exterior condition:

Light green, yellow-green, or yellow — in any case in good and presentable condition. The Swedish Transport Agency at least considers it light green. Scrape marks on the right front wheel arch from a tight garage passage, small rust spot on the right rear wheel arch, a few minor marks and touch-ups. The black section of the rear panel could easily be refreshed. Older tires on original steel rims with nice original hubcaps.

  • General condition:

Seventies Japanese car preserved in a pleasant and normally used condition for its mileage. These models are also relatively rare and have a clear following of enthusiasts.

Facts about the model

The Datsun 120Y (also known as the Datsun B210 in some markets) was launched in 1973 and produced until 1978. The 1975 model year was part of this second generation, which was known for being fuel-efficient and uncomplicated – qualities that made it attractive during the oil crisis of the 1970s.

It featured a 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine with 69 hp that was simple, durable, and easy to maintain.

In many countries, the car became an entry-level choice for young buyers and families who needed a reliable and inexpensive car. It was known for its high dependability, although it was also criticized for being prone to rust and somewhat weak in performance. The 120Y sold well globally, not least in Europe.

Today, a Datsun 120Y is quite rare on the roads, but it has gained a certain cult status among JDM (Japan Domestic Market) enthusiasts thanks to its period charm and as a people’s car in the automotive history of the 1970s.
