"This was a luxury car with American characteristics for its time—imposing and large, yet understated. Stepping inside, you are quickly enveloped in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, with the ride being calm and stress-free. The luxury and features of the era ensure that nothing is lacking. Most functions are electrically operated, and the music system, along with the working AC, performs its job well. The car’s condition appears largely original, though there are a few details that need attention. The car hasn’t been driven regularly in recent years, so a thorough inspection and service are recommended."

Description

This car left Dearborn at the turn of August/September 1987 and has a special history, having been purchased new in Manhattan, New York, and imported by a Swedish Member of Parliament. The entire process of selecting, purchasing, and importing the car was undertaken with great passion by him. All documentation from the acquisition and importation accompanies the car. Additionally, there is a wealth of original paperwork, including the build sheet, instruction manuals, and other materials from the USA, along with a binder full of receipts, inspection reports, documents, faxes, and literature.

The car was registered for traffic in Sweden in May 1988, and in December 2014, the son took over ownership. In August 2016, the car was acquired by an avid American car enthusiast who had been driving ‘Yank tanks’ since the 1950s. In April 2023, the car was passed on to his daughter. The odometer reads 70,130.9 miles, which corresponds to approximately 112,910 kilometers. This appears to be accurate given the car’s condition and documentation, though it cannot be guaranteed. As it is now being sold, the car has been inspected and is ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily and runs smoothly in both the engine and drivetrain. Test-driven at a relaxed pace on small roads, and everything seems to function as it should, including steering, shifting, braking, and comfort. It hasn’t been inspected on a lift, but what could be seen of the vital parts looked good. The vehicle inspection had no other comments, except for a note on brake force distribution, which was addressed during a follow-up inspection.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in a fine original condition. Both the seats and rear bench are in excellent, unworn condition, as are the door panels, interior panels, headliner, and carpets. Rubber floor mats are in place in the front. The steering wheel, controls, instruments, and wood details are all in good condition. All electrical systems appear to function well. The AC was cooling during the test drive. The car is equipped with a newer Pioneer stereo with a CD rack in the trunk and a Bazooka subwoofer.

  • Exterior condition:

The paintwork is in fine condition and likely original, as is the vinyl roof. There is minor wear and tear, such as scuffs, scratches, and stone chips, which is normal for the car’s age and mileage. The trim on the right rear door has come loose at the back. Everything else, including chrome, glass, plastic, rubber, emblems, and lighting details, is in similarly good condition. The wheels and tires are also in great shape, as are the engine and trunk compartments.

  • General condition:

A stylish and comfortable premium car from Lincoln that, despite its more than 35 years on the road, is in well-preserved condition. While there are a few things to look over and address, it remains a wonderful representative of its era and the ‘over there’ car tradition, where full-size, V8 engines, and comfort were paramount. A fine classic and enthusiast vehicle.

Facts about the model

The first Lincoln model was introduced in 1920, developed by the renowned automotive legend Henry M. Leland. After leaving his position at GM and Cadillac, Leland initially focused on producing aircraft engines, but after World War I, he returned to car manufacturing. In 1922, Lincoln became part of the Ford Motor Company and served as its prestige brand. From 1932 to 1948, Lincoln offered a V12 engine among its production options. The iconic Continental model was introduced in 1939 and became synonymous with the Lincoln brand for many years. Another classic model line was the Town Car, a full-size sedan that competed with Cadillac, Chrysler, and European premium cars. The Town Car was produced from 1981 to 2011, with the first generation running until the 1989 model year. It was powered by a 5.0 L small-block V8 engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. The model was over 5.5 meters long and nearly 2 meters wide. In addition to various options, buyers could also order special editions. One of these was the Cartier Designer Edition, featuring unique color schemes and interior designs, along with Cartier emblems. Starting in 1987, the edition was upgraded with an even more luxurious interior and a new two-tone paint scheme in platinum beige, in addition to the original silver or white options.

Today, Lincoln manufactures only SUV and crossover models.
