"An early Opel in excellent condition."

Description

A previous owner bought the car in 1940 for 3,300 SEK, and at that time, the Opel had traveled around 300 kilometers. In March 1942, the owner applied to convert the Opel to gasifier operation and was granted permission. A car workshop in Vassunda/Knivsta was tasked with creating a wood charcoal gasifier unit. The car was used with this gasifier unit for a few years, but in 1946, it was registered back for gasoline operation and driven as such until 1964 (according to reports, the gasifier unit is now at Viksta Tractor Museum, north of Uppsala). The car was then stored in a barn and remained there.

However, in 1977, the car was brought out again, and an extensive restoration began by the son of the previous owner. It involved significant rust repair, engine re-boring, and crankshaft grinding. The steering and brakes were also overhauled, and the car was repainted both inside and out. The interior received new upholstery that closely matched the original design. The restoration was completed in 1988, after which the car has been used for summer vintage car rallies and other recreational drives to various events. It has been stored in a garage during the winter months.

Facts about the model

Captain was the last model Opel constructed before World War II. It premiered at the Geneva Motor Show in 1939. The car was available in both covered and open versions. Production was interrupted at the end of 1940. After the war, production resumed in 1948, now only with a four-door sedan body. In 1951, a further developed version with an expanded trunk space and a stronger engine was introduced.
