Description
During the autumns and winters, the bus was always housed dry beneath a canvas in a barn with timber floors. It is in essentially the same condition as when they purchased it 30 years ago.
The car was last inspected in 2009, when a re-inspection was required owing to rust in the left front axle beam and left rear frame. These rust attacks must still be addressed. The horn is broken (works on and off).
A prior user has repainted the bus (inadvertently) in a blue colour that is identical to the bus's original colour. A previous owner fitted a plexiglass sunroof in the 1980s. The brothers believe it is now time for a VW enthusiast to take over and restore the bus.
2017: brakes were inspected and all lighting was checked.
All gasoline lines and hoses were updated in 1992.
The brothers have provided regular service, including oil changes. According to the owner, the engine and transmission are in good working order but had start to leak from the fuel pump.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine and transmission are in good working order, however the engine runs low during our visit, most likely owing to petrol leaking at the fuel pump.
-
Interior condition
Interior is worn, but the dashboard is in good condition with no signs of age or dry cracks (see images). The mice, on the other hand, have feasted on the headrests.
There is also self-made camping equipment provided, as seen in the images. -
Exterior condition
Older repainting. The left front axle beam and the left rear frame are rusted. Rust also appears on the wings corners and roof drains. Tires with dry cracks, as shown in the photographs.
-
General condition
With a little work, this VW bus can become a nice rolling renovation project.
