Description

The wonderful Saab 92B Bonneville is a well-known car in Sweden, featured at car shows, on YouTube, and even in its own dedicated book. Its owner, Claes, built the car as a tribute to a story told by his mother and grandfather, who were involved in a secret land speed record attempt for cars under 1000cc at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Claes' grandfather was an engineer on the Saab J29 plane, the world's fastest jet plane in 1954, and his mother was involved with Saab cars and even raced them at Bonneville.

The entire project is well-documented on his YouTube channel, showcasing the six years it took to complete. The work was done by Claes himself, along with professional help, especially from XP Racing, specialists in historical racing and 2-stroke engines. The car comes with a special racing bonnet and exhaust system, allowing the exhaust pipe to come out of the bonnet (see pictures), but it is currently set up in a more standard configuration.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine and gearbox of this Saab 92B Bonneville have been meticulously renovated. The engine features a refurbished crankshaft, built with the help of XP Racing specialists in historic racing with 2-stroke engines. The build includes motorcycle connecting rods and American racing pistons, in both shorter and lower versions. The engine block and cylinder head have been resurfaced, and it includes a specially built exhaust system that is bonnet-mounted. Currently, the car is fitted with the standard bonnet and exhaust, but an extra racing bonnet and exhaust system are included.

The car has a 3-speed gearbox, stylish wheels with disc hubcaps, rear fender skirts, and good tires.

  • Interior condition:

Interior is very well kept and all original, with some timeless patina and small signs of age-related usage and wear. It is fitted with extra racing seat belts and newer rubber mats.

  • Exterior condition:

The car was originally in solid condition but has undergone welding and repairs on the floors, with professional help welding the sills and fixing the jacking points. Today, it boasts a nice and solid bodywork. The bodywork's patina and small dents have been preserved, polished, and waxed to maintain its wonderful style and feel. Additionally, it features hand-painted white text and old-style "750" logo and older stickers.

  • General condition:

One of the coolest 2-stroke Saabs in Sweden it's also incredibly fun to drive and sounds wonderful. I would keep it just as it is, but you can make it more original if you prefer. The only warning is that you'll constantly be stopped and asked if it's okay to take pictures.
