Facts about the model

The first Volkswagen Transporter, type II, left the assembly line in February. Series production started on March 8, at the start 10 cars were produced per day. VW Transporter was based on Bubblan's base plate, but in reality "Transporter" had no base plate, it had a self-supporting body, but the rest was similar to the engine at the back, noisy and not all the worlds comfort. It had the same wheelbase as the Bubble, 240 cm. The first models had plate cabinets without side windows, and already a month later the bus model came with side windows. With simple handles you could remove the seats in the back of the car, and then you had a van. There was also a model with openable fabric roof (sunroof). The first Transporter generation was made until 1967.
