"No one ever imagined it would be possible to buy a virtually brand-new Saab in 2025 — yet here it is. Thanks to its dedicated collector, the car has been carefully stored and started every three months to ensure that everything remains in perfect working order."

Description

The car was purchased in 2013 as part of Saab’s bankruptcy auction, sold through KVD Auctions. Every Saab sold at that auction was fitted with a small plaque in the engine bay reading “Sold for Saab Bankruptcy.” This particular 9-4X was sold pre-registered, and the owner completed the full registration on June 10, 2022, primarily as a requirement for insurance purposes.

The current owner sadly passed away, and the car is now being sold on behalf of his estate. He was a proud Saab enthusiast and collector who took excellent care of the car—always keeping it in a heated garage and starting it every few months to ensure everything remained in perfect working order.

The Saab 9-4X was developed during Saab’s final years under General Motors (GM) ownership and was the company’s entry into the growing premium crossover SUV segment, intended to compete with the Volvo XC60, BMW X3, and Audi Q5. Built on GM’s Theta Premium platform, shared with the Cadillac SRX, the 9-4X made its world debut at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, with production starting in April 2011.

This example is powered by the 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 265 hp, paired with Saab’s advanced XWD all-wheel-drive system. The design was unmistakably Saab—inspired by the Aero X concept, featuring the brand’s signature “ice-block” headlights, wraparound windshield, and aircraft-inspired interior with night panel and driver-focused dashboard.

In total, only about 814 Saab 9-4X units were ever produced, and of these, around 500 were completed and delivered to customers before the factory shut down. This makes the Saab 9-4X one of the rarest production Saabs ever built, even rarer than the 9-2X and 9-7X—making this example a truly exceptional collector’s piece.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

We test-drove the car up and down the road, and everything works exactly as it should. The engine runs smoothly, the gearbox shifts properly, and the brakes are strong and responsive. All electrical features operate correctly — including the seats, mirrors, roof, and exterior lighting, with the rear light bar fully functional. There are no warning lights on the dashboard, and to top it off, the air conditioning blows cold. The engine bay still looks almost new, with only light oxidation visible on some of the alloy components.

  • Interior condition:

Interior still looks and even smells like a brand-new car, with no damage and hardly any visible signs of use.

  • Exterior condition:

Exterior of the car is in outstanding condition, with no dents, scratches, paint chips, or rust — it still looks virtually new. The underbody is clean and damage-free, showing only light oxidation on a few components. The paintwork gleams beautifully in the sunlight, and while it already presents at about 95% showroom condition, a light polish would easily bring it up to a full 100%.

  • General condition:

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for any Saab enthusiast to acquire such a unique piece of the brand’s history — and proudly say you own the only one of its kind in the world.
