"A fun addition for the collector to use in combination with a police vehicle."

Description

According to the Police Museum, this is one of 60 equipment trailers model 68 that were manufactured in 1968 on behalf of the National Police Board. The so-called “disaster trailers” carried a large amount of equipment that could be used in various types of incidents. This particular trailer is empty, except for a broom. The special markings showing where each piece of equipment was meant to be placed are still there. A previous owner, with a keen interest in police vehicles, restored it to its original police appearance. He repainted it and added the POLIS decal. Two winter wheels with studded tires are included.

Facts about the model

After all police operations were nationalized in 1965, a major modernization of police safety equipment took place. In 1967, the National Police Board received new regulations regarding the use of spike strips. To comply with these regulations, a large amount of equipment was required. This led to the development of the Equipment Trailer model 68.

It was manufactured by the company Angqvist & Karlsson in Burseryd, Småland, on behalf of the National Police Board. In addition to spike strips, the trailer carried a wide range of equipment for use during traffic controls and police raids. Every piece of equipment had a carefully marked storage location. When fully equipped, the trailer weighed 800 kg.

The trailer model was often referred to as the “disaster trailer,” but its formal designation in the registration documents is AK 800P, which is understood to stand for Angqvist & Karlsson 800 kg Police. Each trailer cost 20,000 SEK.

In 1968, each police district was to receive one trailer, except for those in the three largest cities, which received two each. According to the Police Museum, a total of 60 equipment trailers were delivered to the various districts, and they were used by the police for many years.
