Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The 1070 cc engine has been rebuilt. It has not been test-run as part of the documentation. The engine was fitted with hard racing spark plugs that didn’t perform well in the chilly weather, and during the start attempts it flooded. However, it was clear that the engine turns over and fires. One of the rims has a visible blemish, but according to the owner, it does not affect driving.

  • Interior condition:

The racing seat, steering wheel, and other equipment are in good condition.

  • Exterior condition:

The bodywork is in good condition, with the only remark being that one of the rearview mirrors was slightly loose.

  • General condition:

A Cooper T52 eager to get back on the track after a few years’ break, as the owner’s health no longer allows continued racing.

Facts about the model

The name Cooper is today synonymous with the sportier versions of the Mini, but the project to create a faster Mini was merely a side venture for the Cooper Car Company. Founded in 1947, the company operated a Formula 1 team and built single-seater racing cars. It also produced Formula Junior cars, which had a connection to the Mini since the Cooper T52 — Cooper’s first Formula Junior model — used BMC’s A-series engine. The chassis was constructed from four longitudinal tubes with hoops around the engine cover and behind the driver. The front suspension used coil springs, while the rear featured a transverse leaf spring. The gearbox was borrowed from Citroën. The Cooper T52 was built for the 1960 racing season and made its debut at Goodwood in March 1960, driven by John Surtees.
