"A classic car that was surely developed by Opel to compete with the American cars. The resemblance is striking in many ways."

Description

A car that likely has had only three traceable owners. The car was sold new to a watchmaker in Umeå. The car was partly renovated in 1986 at which time it also received a new paint job. The car has been stationary for quite some time but, despite this, it runs very well. A brake renovation is probably necessary as the car pulls sharply to the right and the brakes also drag. The interior is intact and nice but needs reconditioning.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine purrs nicely, and the three-speed gearbox functions flawlessly. However, a startup service is recommended. All functions work as they should, with the exception of the brakes.

As for the mileage, it is most likely that the odometer has rolled over once.

  • Interior condition:

Very nice interior, however, it needs a proper cleaning. The headliner is intact and shows no signs of sagging. The front door panels are nice but somewhat discolored at the back. Nice carpets.

  • Exterior condition:

The car was repainted many years ago with mixed results. There are some rust bubbles and paint blisters in a few areas, which should be relatively easy to fix. The right front bumper has some scratches and scuff marks. Underneath, the car looks good as far as we can see, and it has likely received one or more underbody treatments over the years. The glass is intact, but the rear lights are faded. The rubber seals around the windows are likely original and show significant cracking. The paint job, done long ago, is not in the original color, which is noticeable when compared to the dashboard. The difference isn’t large but is visible. The tires are old but still have good tread.

  • General condition:

The car makes a good impression and is fully drivable in its current condition, although with the exception of the brakes.

Owner's comment

The car has just been sitting idle for the past few years since the man passed away, and it needs to be disposed of to someone who can take care of it further.

Facts about the model

The Opel Olympia is a small car from Opel that was produced between 1935-1940, 1947-1953, and 1967-1970. In 1935, the Opel Olympia became the first mass-produced car made entirely of steel. It was revolutionary for Opel's car manufacturing, introducing spot welding, new materials, and a new production line.

Before World War II, it came in two versions: the 1935-1937 Olympia had a 1.3-liter engine, and from 1937-1940, it featured a 1.5-liter engine. Between 1935 and 1940, more than 168,000 cars were produced.

The Opel Olympia Rekord was introduced in March 1953 as a successor to the original Opel Olympia, which had been designed back in 1935. The Olympia Rekord was produced until 1957, with around 580,000 units made in total.
