SAAB 93b 850cc — 1959

A nice 93b that is largely an original car. The engine, however, has been replaced with an 850cc unit. Attractive color scheme that matches the blue smoke from the exhaust system.

"Feels very solid to drive. The engine runs quietly and smoothly and is lively. Fine interior, most of which is in original condition."

Description

A car that has had 7 owners over the years. Its early history is unknown, but from what we can trace, the car has at times been in the areas around Varberg and Borås. The current owner, a highly experienced Saab enthusiast, bought the car in May 2015. The car was driven regularly and inspected the following year. After this, restoration work began on selected areas. The 750cc engine was lifted out and replaced with a rebuilt 850cc engine. The engine was fitted with a "Safari fan" for improved cooling, and a two-inch exhaust system was installed. The overall condition of the car is very good. Fine interior and everything mechanical in good condition. The paintwork has minor blemishes. Spare wheel, jack, and a set of keys are included. Some documentation also accompanies the car. The mileage cannot be guaranteed, but it does not seem unlikely. The current owner has driven approximately 7,000 km during the 11 years he has owned it. Our assessment is that this car can easily be driven home from the seller.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Everything in good working order mechanically. The engine pulls nicely in all gears, and the instruments and other technical functions work as they should. The brakes engage evenly and smoothly. Fine Kumho tires mounted on original wheels.

  • Interior condition

Good driver condition and mostly original. Perhaps a cleaning of the upholstery, carpets, and headliner would further enhance the overall impression

  • Exterior condition

Repainted approximately 10 years ago. There are some minor bubbles in a few places. These are bubbles in the paintwork and not rust. A minor scratch is located at the rear of the right fender near the bumper. Chrome, glass, light fixtures, and trim are in good condition.

  • General condition

A car in original condition that has, however, been upgraded for improved drivability. Nothing wrong with that in our view, as original materials were used in the update.

Facts about the model

The Saab 93B is a classic car that was manufactured by the Swedish automaker Saab from 1957 to 1960.
It had a distinctly aerodynamic design, which was quite innovative for its time. It featured a compact body with a sloping roofline and a hatchback design, making it more practical than many other cars of that era.

The car was powered by a two-stroke, three-cylinder engine producing approximately 38 horsepower. This engine was known for its simplicity and reliability, although it was not particularly powerful compared to contemporary four-stroke engines.
The Saab 93B came with a four-speed manual gearbox, which was an improvement over earlier models that had a three-speed gearbox.
The interior of the Saab 93B was functional and simple, with a focus on driver comfort and practicality. It had a simple dashboard and enough room for four passengers.

The Saab 93B is considered a significant model in Saab's history and represents the brand's innovative approach to car design and engineering. It helped establish Saab's reputation for producing unique and practical vehicles.
Today, the Saab 93B is sought after by classic car enthusiasts and collectors, especially those interested in Swedish automotive history. Restored examples can command high prices on the collector market.
