"Reliable and durable motorcycle, also used by the military — in this case equipped, like this example, with a close-ratio gearbox."

Description

The current owner bought the Arrow in Skellefteå — disassembled into parts but still registered in the vehicle registry. It was a true project, a puzzle. He began with the frame: all frame components were carefully sandblasted and then painted — not hastily, but thoroughly and professionally. The paintwork started with a CA primer and a two-component sanding primer, which was then sanded to 800-grit smoothness before the color was applied. The result is a deep metallic blue finish, completed with a two-component clear coat.

The fuel tank was re-chromed, and a new seat was fabricated. The engine was completely overhauled — it received a rebuilt crankshaft, rebored cylinders, new pistons, and many other NOS parts. The gearbox was also rebuilt and is of the close-ratio type. The fenders are shiny, similar to those of the 560 model, and the wheels were given a major upgrade: newly spoked wheels, new rims with polished hubs, and brand-new tires. The rear wheel is a 19-inch WM3, and the front is a 21-inch WM2 fitted with a raised motocross-style handlebar.

The engine has also been equipped with a breakerless 12-volt ignition system from the Czech manufacturer VAPE. It starts easily and runs cleanly and steadily. When everything was finished and the inspection completed, the bike was approved for road use until the year 2099.

From a box of parts in Skellefteå to a gleaming, road-ready Arrow.

Facts about the model

The Blue Arrow was one of Monark’s technical triumphs of the 1950s — a twin-cylinder 250 cc sport machine that was, at the time, also regarded as a comfortable touring motorcycle, featuring modern rear swingarm suspension and a smooth-acting telescopic front fork. It came equipped with a well-padded dual seat.

The Blue Arrow was a true winner — in 1954, Monark claimed all eight medals in the International Six Days Trial with a machine just like this.
