Land Rover 109 LWB S2 V6 — 1968

Classic 1968 Land Rover Series II LWB (Long Wheelbase) — a true workhorse that’s both charming and highly practical for country life. With plenty of space for passengers and generous loading capacity, it’s ideal for both farm duties and weekend adventures. This example has been upgraded with a Ford Capri V6 engine, giving it extra power and a satisfying V6 rumble under the bonnet.

"Father and son have shared this Landy for nearly 10 years, steadily improving and maintaining it together over the years."

Description

This Land Rover was sold new in Sweden and originally fitted with a 2.3-litre diesel engine. The current owner purchased the Landy nearly 10 years ago, by which time it had already been refitted with a Ford V6 engine from a Capri. Father and son have shared the car over the years and carried out several upgrades together.

The bodywork has been repaired and repainted in the classic Land Rover Limestone color, giving it a clean and authentic look. The underbody is solid, showing some signs of older welding work. Over the years, it has received numerous upgrades, including new electrical wiring, new leaf springs, a high-speed differential, new universal joints, and bolts, among other improvements. The odometer currently reads 64,946 km, but there is no documentation confirming the actual mileage. Based on its history, it is estimated to have covered at least 164,946 km.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine starts easily and runs well, with a satisfying V6 rumble. It drives like a Land Rover should, with its characteristic agricultural feel—though noticeably more powerful thanks to the V6 motor. The gearbox shifts fines, and the brakes work but would benefit from a review, as they currently pull slightly to the right.

The engine bay would look better with some cleaning and a bit of repainting. The car has newer electrical cabling throughout, although the electric wipers are not currently connected. Overall, it would benefit from a general inspection and service, as it hasn’t been driven much in the past two years. It sits on a good set of steel wheels (not original) fitted with good tires.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is clean and tidy, with the front and rear seats reupholstered in brown vinyl. There are three small holes on the driver’s seat. The headliner is not currently fitted but is included (see pictures), and the metal dashboard ventilation cover also needs to be installed. A full-size roof rack with ladder is also included, and the owner is arranging to have it delivered to our depot.

  • Exterior condition:

The bodywork has been repaired and renovated. The body panels are alloy, with some repairs visible around the rear wing near the fuel filler and along the lower edges of the front and rear wings (see pictures). The car was fully repainted approximately five years ago and still presents in good condition. Some panels show slight dents, and there are small paint blisters around the lower edge of the passenger door.

The underbody shows signs of older welding on parts of the frame and a small rust hole on the inner top section of the front wing. The door locks would benefit from adjustment to ensure they close fully.

  • General condition:

Older Land Rovers are highly sought after by enthusiasts today, especially the long-wheelbase versions. This example only needs a light review—mainly the brakes—and a few minor interior jobs, such as fitting the headliner.
