Description

The car was sold new in February 1973. The current owner recently inherited the car from his father (estate) and now wants to sell it. His father had owned the car since 2003. The car was recently inspected, with only minor remarks regarding the brakes. These have now been addressed. The car has been driven very little in recent years.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Engine runs very smoothly. The car was not driven at the time of testing. According to the owner, the automatic transmission also shifts well. Brakes were recently replaced and the car has just passed inspection. All functions in the car work flawlessly.

  • Interior condition:

Interior in good usable condition, however there is a crack in the dashboard and two tears in the driver's seat (see pictures). Slight sagging of the headliner near the rear window. A reconditioning is recommended.

  • Exterior condition:

Original paint that would benefit from polishing. There are some blemishes on the doors and rust on both rear fenders. Some scratches in the paint as well as on the bumpers. Trims, windows, and chrome are normally worn due to age.

  • General condition:

Nice overall impression where a little hands-on touch would make it nice. Unusual with automatic transmission for the model year.

Facts about the model

The Volvo 140 is a series of large passenger cars manufactured by the Swedish automaker Volvo between 1966 and 1974. The series includes the models 142 (2-door sedan), 144 (4-door sedan), and 145 (5-door station wagon). In total, over 1.2 million units of the model series were produced, making it the first Volvo series to be manufactured in over 1 million units. In addition to the base models, from 1970 there was also a variant of the 145 model with a higher roof, called the 145 Express. It was intended to replace the Volvo Duett, whose production had ceased in February 1969, but the model never achieved the same success as its predecessor. The series is known as a milestone in Volvo's history and the one that created the modern Volvo car through its boxy body, large interior spaces, and strong focus on safety. The 140 series' body continued through the 240 series well into the 1990s. The front and rear parts had been modified, but the middle section of the body remained largely unchanged, and the doors from the last 240 can be used on a 144/145 from the sixties.
