"Very nice Saab that runs well. It didn’t want to idle during the test drive, but this will be fixed before delivery. The car makes a flawless impression both inside and out and is permanently inspected."

Description

An unrestored original car that was bought new by a Karlskrona family in 1962. It has been well cared for and owned within the family until 1997. Then, it was purchased by Förlags AB Albinsson & Sjöberg to be exhibited at their museum in Karlskrona. As renewal is constant there and vehicles are exchanged, this one is being sold to make room for a new addition.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car starts easily and runs smoothly, delivered newly serviced. Everything works and the brakes are effective without any pulling to one side.

  • Interior condition:

Very fine original interior with few signs of wear. The rubber mats are dry and crack easily.

  • Exterior condition:

The paint is in excellent condition, and the chrome as well, although there are signs of wear. There are a few minor dents on the right door that can probably be straightened out. Good tires on nice original rims.

  • General condition:

An excellent example of a Swedish car that was a common sight on the roads in the 60s but is more rare today.

Facts about the model

The Saab 96 was introduced on February 17, 1960, as a further development of the Saab 93. The Saab 96 was manufactured until January 1980. Step by step, Saab improved the car over the years. The Saab 96 became one of the most common and beloved cars in the Swedish welfare state. Over the years, the car acquired many nicknames, such as Djungeltrumma (Jungle Drum), Ägghalva (Egg Half), and Trollhättemoped. The Saab 96's road handling was impressive as a rally car. In 1962, Erik Carlsson 'on the roof' won one of the world's most prestigious car rallies, the Monte Carlo Rally. He did so with a Saab 96 model equipped with a 55-horsepower two-stroke engine. He repeated his feat the following year, winning the 1963 edition of the rally as well.
