"Cult classic model in an exciting exhibition condition."

Description

It was first delivered to a German dealer in 2001 where it was displayed in the showroom before a motorcycle company in Gävle, Bike Port AB, purchased the bike a few years later and also exhibited it. When that company went bankrupt in 2020, it ended up with a man in Karlstad and finally with the current owner who, with the help of previous documentation from Honda Sweden, has registered it and gotten the bike approved and road-ready. A fax from 2003 confirming the exact manufacturing date in the Kumamoto factory on February 14, 2001, is an important and pleasant piece of documentation. With a 50 cc engine and about 3.5 horsepower, it is registered as a light motorcycle and must therefore legally be driven with an A1 class license, not with a regular B driver’s license.

Facts about the model

Honda's Z50 Monkeybike has a history that dates back to 1961 when it was originally developed for an amusement park in Tokyo, where it was used as a fun little vehicle for children. The first version was a 50 cc minibike with small wheels and a comical appearance, which led to the nickname 'Monkeybike' since adults looked like monkeys when riding it due to the seating position. Nevertheless, it became incredibly popular. As they say, 'The beauty is in the eye of the beholder.' After its success in the amusement park, the first commercial model, the Honda Z50A, was launched on the international market in 1967. With its light weight, low seat height, and simple appearance, it quickly became popular as a recreational vehicle for both children and adults. It was easy to transport and could be taken along in, for example, a caravan/camper, used for practical trips in town, or simply for pure fun. Over the years, the concept evolved with different versions and upgrades, but the core idea remained the same – a small, fun, and easy-to-ride motorcycle. Production of the classic models ceased in the early 2000s, but the interest in monkeybikes has not waned, and in 2018 a modernized version with a larger engine and small design changes was reintroduced.
