"The BMW R69 was in its time a well-built motorcycle of good quality. For the same reason, these are today sought-after vintage motorcycles. It needs to be checked at the vehicle inspection service before it is taken on the road."

"The BMW R69 was in its time a well-built motorcycle of good quality. For the same reason, these are today sought-after vintage motorcycles. It needs to be checked at the vehicle inspection service before it is taken on the road."

Description

The motorcycle has had a total of 5 owners, with the current owner since 1977. When the R69 was introduced, it was considered a sport bike due to its powerful engine. According to contemporary tests, the R69 was capable of speeds up to 165 km/h. It quickly became popular as a police motorcycle in many countries. In Sweden, it is seen as an icon in these contexts. Given that this R69 is equipped with additional cylinder protection, it is reasonable to think that it may have also served in the police force, but no research has been conducted to confirm this, so we do not know for sure. A sidecar with complete mounts, previously used with the motorcycle, is included. The owner recalls using the sidecar to drive his children around when they were small and had trouble sleeping. He would tuck them into the sidecar and take a ride, and they would fall asleep soundly without any problems. The odometer shows 46,280 km. Almost all inspection reports since 1977 have been preserved, so we believe the mileage is accurate. The last approved inspection by the vehicle inspection authority was in 2002. It has been deregistered from the vehicle registry since 2004. The owner has ridden it every summer around the yard and has been diligent about unloading the tires when storing it in the garage. The motorcycle must be inspected by the vehicle inspection authority before being put back on the road. Once approved, it will be exempt from periodic inspections and tax-free according to vintage vehicle regulations.

This is a distance auction, meaning that the photos and information about the motorcycle's condition have been provided by the owner. BWA has not examined the motorcycle on-site.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The technology is based on BMW's basic concept with a boxer engine and shaft drive. The engine is an air-cooled four-stroke of 594cc with a stated power of 35 horsepower. The gearbox has 4 speeds. Drum brakes both front and rear. According to the owner, an engine overhaul was done in 1979 and since then it has not required any interventions. It starts easily and runs well without any oil leaks. The tires were new at the last inspection in 2002 and are in good condition for their age. Since then, the motorcycle has been driven within the yard every summer to keep the technology in motion. In 2022, a review and ultrasonic cleaning of the carburetors were carried out.

  • Exterior condition:

Appearance-wise, the motorcycle is in the same condition as in 1977 when the current owner purchased it. No modifications or rebuilds have been made. There are some dents on the mufflers. It appears to be in good working condition. See the pictures.

  • General condition:

Motorcycle with a good overall impression. Wear is normal for its model year and mileage. A sidecar of a later model, complete with all fittings, is included.
