Description

This Volvo Amazon Sport was purchased new by Gunnar Atterbrink on April 15, 1965, in Lindesberg. The car is equipped with the sporty 86 hp engine, twin carburetors (now a single carburetor), and a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Gunnar lived in Frövi and drove the car sparingly, only a few thousand kilometers per year. He was meticulous about maintenance and had all servicing carried out at Folkes Bilverkstad in Frövi, as documented in the service book. During his ownership, the car was kept in an unheated garage for eleven years.

On March 11, 1976, the car was inherited by Gunnar's niece Ewa Atterbrink, who together with her husband brought the Amazon to Stockholm. There it was kept in a heated garage for twelve years and used as a family car, mainly on weekends and for trips in central and southern Sweden. The family also made several vacation trips down through Europe, including to Germany, Austria, the former Yugoslavia, and Italy. The Amazon proved to be a reliable traveling companion, even on the steep Alpine roads of Austria. On the German autobahns, the overdrive came in very handy. Throughout this period, the family continued to care for the car diligently, with servicing and repairs carried out at the same workshop in Frövi that Gunnar had used.

On July 15, 1982, the twin carburetors were replaced with a single carburetor, in part to simplify the inspection process. Over the years, the exhaust system was also replaced, and toward the end of the 1980s new side mirrors, a car radio, and a tow hitch were fitted. Otherwise, the owners recall no major repairs.

In 1987, the family moved to a house in Örebro, where the Amazon was once again kept in an unheated garage. By that time, the car had covered approximately 174,410 km. The family had acquired a newer car, and the Amazon was therefore used less and less. The last inspection was carried out on February 5, 1990, and on June 26, 1991, the car was taken off the road entirely.

Since then, the Amazon has remained in the garage, where it was stored until October 2026. The odometer now reads 206,880 km. Four older winter tires are included loose with the car.

This is an Amazon with an unusually long and unbroken ownership history, cared for by the same family across two generations. From its delivery in 1965, through the family's vacation trips across Europe, to its long period of garage storage, the car has been preserved with its history intact.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The engine has been started using an external fuel tank. It sounds just as a B18 should. Beyond that, we do not know much about the mechanical condition, as the car has not been road tested since the pedals are stuck.

  • Interior condition

    See photos.

  • Exterior condition

    See photos.

  • General condition

A great project for the winter months in the garage. The car feels largely untouched. Could be ready by spring.
