"A nice little rocket that epitomizes the small, peppy family cars of the 1980s with sporty ambitions. This one is still in pleasing original condition and ready to drive."

Description

This car was first registered for road use on April 3, 1987. It was sold new by Wennerdahl & Son in Visby. The first owner lived in Lärby, but as early as February of the following year, the current owner in Visby took it over. For nearly 39 years, it has been a faithful companion on the roads of Gotland, including Visby and the surrounding area. When not being driven, it has mostly rested in the garage. The odometer reads 9,980 km, which equates to 109,980 km as the odometer has rolled over once. In recent years, however, it has seen sparing use, approximately 3,000 km over the last ten years, with only 500 km over the last five years. The car comes with two sets of keys, service records, a stack of inspection reports, and a healthy dose of mischief and driving pleasure.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts easily and the engine sounded perfectly fine. During a shorter, gentle test drive in the residential suburb, everything was experienced to work well, including steering, clutch, gearbox, and brakes. Since the car has been driven sparingly in recent years and some time has passed since it was last serviced, a service overhaul is recommended. Not checked on a lift, but what could be seen looked good, and no remarks from the Swedish vehicle inspection. A clean inspection report the last time.

  • Interior condition

Fine and well-preserved interior with mild patina from use; some wear to the fabric/stitching at the entry point on the lower part of the driver's seat backrest. Comfortable seats, fine door panels, trim panels, carpets, and headliner. Steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and gauges in fine condition. All electrical functions appear to work well, as does the period-correct stereo.

  • Exterior condition

Fine, seemingly original paint with normal wear for its age and mileage. The spoiler and wing on the tailgate are beginning to show their age. Otherwise, the glass, trim, plastic and lighting details are in good original condition. The same goes for the special GTI wheels and tires, which are in good condition, although it may be time to replace them due to age.

  • General condition

Interest in the GTI cars from their heyday is strong and growing. This little rocket from Suzuki's first entry in the class is no exception – quite the opposite. Interest in the Japanese cars keeps increasing, and this model is becoming increasingly sought after. It is a fine little classic and enthusiast car. The history, condition, and driving pleasure of this Gute car make it extra interesting; there are not many of them left in Sweden.

Facts about the model

The Suzuki Swift is a compact car that was produced in four different generations from 1983 to 2004. Suzuki as a car brand was launched in Sweden in 1980; previously, only motorcycles and mopeds were sold here. But with the small and charming Swift, sales took off. With the GTi 16-valve version, Suzuki jumped on the GTi trend that was hot during the 80s and into the 90s. It quickly gained cult status as a "pocket rocket". With its 1298 cc G13-B aluminum engine, DOHC and 16 valves, it was a firecracker in the lightweight body. It delivered 101 hp with a redline starting at 7400 rpm. It managed 0-100 km/h in 9 seconds and topped out at around 185 km/h. The first version, the Swift GTi Mk 1, was produced between 1986 and 1988. Today, these are very rare and sought-after collector cars.
