Description
The car was dismantled and repainted in 2014 and remains in good, usable condition today. The bodywork is straight and presentable, with some imperfections and signs of age, as expected on an older renovation. The underbody is solid and in good condition.
Powered by the classic 1.9-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a manual gearbox, the car runs and drives well. The engine has previously been removed, although there is no documentation confirming whether it was internally renovated. The electrical system has also been upgraded from the original 6-volt setup to 12 volts for improved practicality.
The interior retains its charming period appearance, with the front seats fitted with protective covers. Beneath these, the original upholstery remains intact and undamaged, although there are some traces of contact adhesive on the material.
Some of the chrome details, particularly the bumper overriders and one of the hubcaps, show signs of deterioration. These are relatively straightforward cosmetic improvements, with replacement parts available for anyone wishing to improve the car further.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine starts easily and runs smoothly after a minute or two of warming up, with a steady idle and no unusual noises. The electrical system has been upgraded from 6 to 12 volts, and an electric heater fan has been fitted. The engine bay is generally presentable but would benefit from some cleaning and detailing. On the road, the car feels stable and drives well, with the manual gearbox shifting correctly. A rubbing noise from the left front brake was noted during our test drive and will require inspection. The car is exempt from periodic roadworthiness inspections in Sweden and is fitted with steel wheels, hubcaps showing some oxidation and older but useable tyres.
-
Interior condition
Interior is in good overall condition. Beneath the front seat covers, the original upholstery remains intact but has some glue residue from previously fitted vinyl covers, which have since been removed. The rear seat presents well, while the headliner, interior panels, door cards and carpets are all in good condition, with some minor marks and signs of age. The right rear door seal requires replacement, as water entered during our photography session in the rain. The dashboard is clean and tidy, with working original gauges, an additional modern oil pressure gauge and an updated indicator stalk with a flashing red warning light. Due to the rain, we were unable to empty and fully inspect the boot compartment, which was filled with tools and spare equipment.
-
Exterior condition
The car presents well, having received an older repaint in 2014. The bodywork is straight, with no notable damage or significant rust issues, and the underbody appears clean and solid. The paintwork remains bright and glossy, although there are some scratches on the front right and rear wings, along with a few small paint chips around the car — please see the detailed photos. The chrome work is generally bright and presentable, with some oxidation on the centre bonnet trim and around the headlights. The chrome is missing from the right-hand front bumper overrider.
-
General condition
This is not a freshly renovated show car, but rather a charming and attractive Citroën Traction Avant in good driver-quality condition, with a few cosmetic details that can easily be improved over time.
