"A cheerful and practical little van for transporting smaller goods or equipment for hobbies and leisure, or why not as a dog car? Whichever you choose, you get a fine little utility vehicle in excellent condition. As with all vehicles that have been standing for a while, a mechanical overhaul and service are recommended. At the time of photography and inspection, the items were parked somewhat tightly and indoors."

Description

This van was registered for road use on August 24, 1964. It was updated to 1979 specification in the early 1980s. At that time, it was owned by a business owner with a keen interest in motoring history who specifically wanted a green Mini Van as his company vehicle. It became a well-known sight on the local roads.

The current owner, a well-known figure in the classic car hobby for many years, acquired the van in its present condition in July 2017, and it has been part of his extensive private collection. The odometer now reads 42,630 km, meaning it has covered only 800 km over the past 20-plus years.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Started up but not driven in several years. When last driven, everything worked as it should. The brakes are reportedly rebuilt. It has not been checked on a lift, but everything appears to be in good order as far as the vital components are concerned.

  • Interior condition

Nice interior in a newer style (1979) that looks good and well-maintained. There is wear from use on the passenger seat cushion. Steering wheel, controls, instrument panel, and gauges in good working condition. The cargo area also looks fine. Roof ventilation.

  • Exterior condition

Repainted during restoration and in fine, glossy condition. Other details such as glass, chrome, trim, emblems, and lighting components are in fine condition. Nice auxiliary lights. Good wheels and hubcaps, as well as tires.

  • General condition

This is a jaunty and useful little classic with the aura of the Mini, but also the opportunity for some work sessions. It is equally well suited for outings and gatherings as for use as a market vehicle and/or a promotional and company vehicle. A jaunty classic and nostalgia car.

Owner's comment

Our father has always been an enthusiastic motoring historian, and over the years many fine and well-maintained cars have passed through the collection. He has always cared for, serviced, and kept them in fine, road-ready condition. It has been a way of life, and he—and we in the family—carry with us a wealth of friends, cars, and memories. Now it is time for the next chapter for us and for the cars in the collection.

Facts about the model

Mini – an icon of motoring history. Anyone with even the slightest interest in motoring history knows that Alec Issigonis designed the model, and that the concept of a transversely mounted engine up front, front-wheel drive, and thus generous interior space in a small car was – and remains – a recipe for success that still holds up today.

The Mini first saw the light of day back in 1959 and was built by BMC 1959-1969, Leyland 1969-1984, and thereafter the Rover Group until 2000. That marked the end of the original model. Yet it lives on in a new guise, through BMW. Over the years it was produced in a wide range of body styles, with various engine options and equipment levels, even under different badges. There were also open special versions and licensed production in other countries. On race tracks and in rallies, it is legendary.

The Mini was loved then and is at least as loved now – it is quite simply immortal and as British as the Beatles, tweed, and lukewarm beer..
