Description
It’s the first example we’ve seen finished in Golden Sand (color code 262), and it really stands out. Service was carried out in June, after which the original stereo was reinstalled and the rear speakers replaced. A BT-Changer has also been fitted, allowing music streaming directly from a mobile phone.
The engine runs well, paired with the automatic transmission that makes for very comfortable cruising. All electrical functions work, including the side reverse lights. The roof operates electrically up and down, though it occasionally flashes an inspection code that can be cleared by pressing the "Clear" button.
Known faults include:
AC does not cool, likely low on gas and will need testing
Central locking does not work (only clicks), but the boot release button works from the fob
Mileage currently reads 118,198 miles, which matches inspection history. In practice, this corresponds to around 189,000 km – still relatively low for a 1998 car.
Overall, this is a solid, good-running Saab 900 Cabriolet in a rare and attractive color, soon turning 30 years old and on its way to becoming tax-exempt.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The car starts directly and the engine runs well. It is easy to drive, with no strange sounds, the automatic gearbox shifts smoothly, and it offers a stable ride with good brakes. In 2024 it received a brake service for 4,500 SEK, and it has recently had an oil service. These engines are chain-driven, so there is no timing belt to worry about. The engine bay would benefit from a light tidy-up, with only normal oxidation on the alloy parts. Inspected on 2026-07-31 also come with a towbar.
-
Interior condition
Interior is clean and tidy. The leather seats are in good condition, with normal wear and dryness on the driver’s and passenger’s seats – they would improve greatly with a proper leather treatment. The driver’s seat lumbar support handle is missing, and there is a small hole on the rear seat (see pictures). Door cards are in good condition, with only a small hole on the driver’s side. Carpets and headliner are also in good shape. The dashboard is complete, with fully working gauges, and all electrical functions – windows, mirrors, and roof. The plastic cover around the ignition key is slightly loose.
-
Exterior condition
The car presents itself well, with straight bodywork showing no damage or rust issues, and a clean, tidy underbody. The paintwork is bright and clean, with only a few small marks and stone chips. The bootlid and both front bumpers have been repainted at some point, and in bright sunlight they show a slightly different shade compared to the rest of the car.
The convertible roof fits well, with no leaks reported by the owner. It has some scuffing from folding and a few small wear marks on the front edge (see pictures), which would be easy to fix if desired. The alloy wheels are in good condition with only minor marks, and the car sits on good tires. -
General condition
These cars offer excellent comfort and practicality as family cabriolets, while remaining easy to manage and service. Above all, they represent outstanding value for money.
