Volvo PV 544A Sport-clone B20 — 1960

Originally a 1960 Volvo 544, now cloned into a 1965 PV Sport. A lot of work has been put into this car and everything is very nicely done.

"Very nicely renovated PV by a skilled and well-known car restorer. Nothing has been left to chance and it still has a little touch of 544A. One gets nostalgic hearing the dual Webers at work. Familiar sound from the rally forests of the past."

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine roars nicely with the dual Webers. The car feels tight during the test drive on a very bad gravel road. All functions are in order.

  • Interior condition:

Nice job with the interior. Reupholstered seating areas in original colors from '65. Dashboard, door panels, carpets, and headliner in renovated condition.

  • Exterior condition:

The car was repainted in parts 7 years ago. Very nicely done by the current owner who has been a car painter for many years. Attractive glass, trims, and chrome.

  • General condition:

Attractive renovation that is perceived by the average person as a Sport -65. If you look a bit under the surface, you can discern the origin of this car. The car is fully operational and inspected for all time.

Owner's comment

The owner was interested in a PV Sport but then found this PV544. With extensive experience in renovation work, the transformation into a 544 Sport began. A very successful result that has earned several awards at various vintage car meetings around the country.

Facts about the model

With this cloned PV, we refer to the PV Sport from 1965.

Volvo introduced its new 'post-war car,' the PV 444, in September 1944, but it wasn't until February 1947 that the first cars were delivered. The 444 model was produced until 1957, after which it was upgraded to the PV 544 model, which was available from the 1958 to 1966 model years. Originally, the PV 544 had a B16 engine, but from the 1962 model year, it was equipped with a B18 engine. The Sport model featured a slightly detuned P1800 engine and dual SU carburetors. The last PV 544 models were built in the fall of 1965 and were designated as the G model, sold as the 1966 model year. According to reports, 3,401 cars were given the 1966 model designation, of which 345 were Sport models. The very last car was a black Sport, which went directly to the Volvo museum. The PV 544 Sport was both a sought-after and, for its time, a powerful car. In the Sport model with the dual SU carburetors, the G model produced 95 hp.
