"In the same auction, we are also offering a Sprite caravan repainted in the same striking orange color as the car — together they make a perfect, period-correct Swedish family holiday combination that has been lovingly enjoyed by the family for many years."

Description

The car was originally sold new in Ryd, just outside Växjö. In 1986 it was taken off the road and dismantled for rust repairs. The hood mounts, sills, rear wheel arches, and spare wheel wells were replaced.

Unfortunately, the Volvo was never reassembled and ended up sitting in a garage until 2018, when it was sold to another man, also from Ryd. In 2021, that owner needed to clear out the garage, but the car was still far from finished. The husband bought the car for his wife, who is also a keen Volvo enthusiast, and she has been the primary driver of the car ever since.

Once we got the car home, we completely stripped it down and sent it for a full repaint in December 2021. By the end of January 2022, it was back, and the reassembly work began, finishing at the end of 2022, when it received its final inspection with no remarks.

The car is equipped with power steering, an overdrive gearbox, and a sport steering wheel. The engine has been partially rebuilt with new bearings, piston rings, and an oil pump. The braking system — including calipers, discs, pads, and hoses — is completely new throughout the entire car.

An older inspection report from 1983 recorded the mileage at 128,238 km. The car was then taken off the road in 1986, and today the mileage is 163,270 km, which aligns well with its documented history. Please watch the included videos to learn more about the owner and the car’s history.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

This car is an absolute pleasure to drive. It starts instantly with a very smooth, strong-running B20 engine, drives beautifully through the gearbox and overdrive, and is fitted with power steering, making it effortless to maneuver and park. It has been carefully maintained in perfect running condition by the current owner and has never been driven in winter. Many happy summer family trips have been enjoyed with this car and the matching caravan. It’s ready for its new owner — just jump in and drive it home.

  • Interior condition:

Interior is original and in well-kept condition. The seats are fabric with vinyl trim, all undamaged with only a few light marks in places. Door cards, carpets, and headliner are in nice condition, while the carpet in the boot has a few stains. The dashboard pad is original with a small crack on the left side above the vent. All instrumentation and gauges are fully working. It’s fitted with a sport steering wheel and the overdrive switch integrated into the gear shifter.

  • Exterior condition:

The car presents itself extremely well. All body panels are straight with no rust issues or damage, and the underbody is clean and tidy with some older signs of repairs. The chrome and trims are bright and clean, the wheels are nice with good tires, and the engine bay is exceptionally clean and well-kept.

  • General condition:

It’s getting harder and harder to find a good Volvo 145 estate, and this one is ideal for any Volvo enthusiast looking for something to enjoy without needing any work apart from routine servicing. And if you want to complete the full 1970s family holiday theme, hopefully you’ll also pick up the matching caravan offered in the same auction.
