"A very well-maintained car with low mileage. A car that’s ready to be enjoyed on the road."

Description

The car was bought new in Kiruna in 1988 by the current owner’s aunt’s husband. He was a true perfectionist when it came to cars and cared for the Saab with the utmost attention. It was only allowed out on the road on truly fine summer days, and when the drive was over it was always returned to its place in a heated garage. Thanks to this, you can still see how well-preserved it is today – on some of the interior panels the protective plastic is still intact.

Eventually, the car was passed on to the current owner’s aunt, after which the Saab remained parked in the garage for many years. In 2020, the current owner was asked if he wanted to take over the car, and the answer was of course yes. The odometer today reads just over 51,000 km, and a lot of documentation has been preserved, including the service book, owner’s manual, service receipts – even the original purchase invoice. All of this is included, see pictures.

Since the current owner took over the Saab, it has been inspected at a workshop on two occasions. Among other things, the fuel pump, injectors, relays, air mass meter, and ECU have been checked. Faulty components have been replaced, the air mass meter and ECU updated, and the chip and software have been reviewed.

Two keys are included with the Saab, as the trunk lock has been replaced and therefore has its own key.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Runs well in both engine and drivetrain. The braking systems work as they should. The left rear electric window does not work. The radio lights up but its functionality is uncertain. The service book has no stamps, but according to the owner, the car has been serviced.

  • Interior condition:

Very nice interior. Completely intact and clean. The well-kept leather seats are in excellent condition. The protective plastic is still in place on the door panels and the rear seat side panels. The floor mats are in good condition but could use a wash.

  • Exterior condition:

Original paint in good condition. It would look even better with some time spent using a polishing machine. The soft top is in good and intact condition, and raising and lowering it works as it should. The car’s underbody also appears to be in good condition.

  • General condition:

A Saab in very fine and excellent usable condition. It rarely gets better than this. Inspected by the vehicle inspection authority and ready to drive.

Facts about the model

The Saab 900 Cabriolet was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1983 – a debut that sent the automotive press into a frenzy. A four-seater convertible without a roll bar was a big deal, and in its first year, 1986, just under 400 examples were sold in the USA. The following year, when the 900 was updated with the slanted front, the cabriolet became available to all markets – and, as before, production took place in Finland.

In total, 48,880 Saab Cabriolets were built up until 1993. In the final two years they were equipped with airbags and ABS.

The Saab 900 Cabriolet was available both with and without turbo, and from 1988 the turbo was water-cooled. The most desirable version is the 16S Cabriolet with the Aero look.

Over the years, the Saab 900 Cabriolet has been frequently featured in films and TV series. Among others, it appears in High Fidelity and the comedy series Seinfeld.
